Sins of a Solar Spam?

Sins of a Solar Spam?

I bought Sins of a Solar empire a few days ago, and was lucky enough to join a great long lasting 4v4. I was impressed first by how massive the maps can be, as well as how chaotic yet interestingly tactical the game allows you be. I came from Dawn of War, which had some really bad spam problems, ultimately leading to the Devs taking action and doing some controversial changes. And at first, I thought SoaSE didn't have these problems, and if I was going to use the 4v4 I had played, where we were all bringing mixed fleets with tons of variation to the fore-front, I would have thought right.

But then just recently I've been playing games where people do nothing but spam. I'll admit to not being a "Pro" just yet, but I know most of the ins and outs of the game. It was me and my friend trying to hold back 1 Advent, that is right, 1 Advent, from destroying one of his planets. Now I had two Akkan class BC's (1 was level 4, the other only 2) where he had 2 Kol battleships. I had various numbers of Frigates and LRMs, as well did my friend. We try to attack yellow, and sure enough he has a massive spam force of Illuminatis and 1 Capital ship(forgot the name). Basically we outnumbered him, but some how he comes away with destroying BOTH my Capitals, the majority of my force, and forces my friend to retreat....how? We had frigates, LRMs, and a few flaks....a very mixed fleet that should have beaten any spammed force, but no, we lose.

Why is it like this? You can say "It is a valid tactic" all you want, but that is crap. How can you possibly say the developers wanted their game to be nothing more than a "Spam 1 unit to winz lol" game? Not only did we lose, but his capital ship didn't even lose his shields by the time we lost both of ours from concetrated fire. So while his 1 cap is sitting there draining ours and basically tanking 4 capital ships, his spammed force is sitting there picking off our capitals while our MIXED force can't do didly squat.

Maybe I'm a nub, but I don't see how I'm supposed to beat spam without spamming myself. This game is slowly becoming no different than the other spam fest games.

I can just imagine the captain in charge of Pearl harbour on the morning of the attack, complaining about the spam of approx 100 Najakima B5Ns shredding through his fleet in minutes. It's just not fair...

I'm sure England told Germans during World War I to stop spamming U-boats like noobs! Even thou they were effective. And then they told God to nerf them.

Germans probably complained about Russia and USA spamming them with Shermans and T-variants during WW2

It was only (very slightly) funny the first time.

In all cases, however, the joke is patently false.

No real-life army spams, by any stretch of the imagination.

Real armies, in fact, have a number of hard caps to worry about, like the number of trained fighter pilots, or the total amount of aluminum their entire country possesses.

Yes, Japan may have put a good number of their torpedo bombers in the same place at the same time, but their entire fighting force was not made up of nothing but torpedo bombers, because that would be no more possible than it would be effective.

So, haha, funny, but don't try to justify spam tactics by saying they're done in real life.

i personally love making a full capship fleet... i find frigates to delicate for my tastes, as i do not really like losing half my fleet every battle
a 16 capship fleet is really expensive, but it counters pretty much anything as long as u keep em alive long enough to get about level 4...

ive only played a single multi game all the way thru, as my comp crashes randomly for some reason... probably overheating

anyway... enough babbling...

i would suggest that every frig/cruiser above x amount have additional cost
for example, have more than 30 flak frigs and every additional flak frig above that has its cost increase by 5%, so 31 costs 105% normal, 32 110%, 33 115%, 33 120%, 34 125%, etc by the time they crank out 50 of em they are paying twice normal cost, making it alot more efficient for them to buy another type of frigate
the advantage of this would be that spam costs alot more
the disadvantage is that if u need a certain unit to counter spam it also becomes alot more costly...

either way, there will be more fleet diversity

Just listened to the web radio broadcast with the Fraser brothers
https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?aid=303368

It is official that IC is monitoring the ICO game stats and believe LRM spam has gotten out of control and LRM spam will be nurffed. Flacks will also no longer be a counter to LRM's.

Ahh yes, the U.S severely spammed B-17s and crushed Germany's industrial infrastructure with thousands of bombers. No one would like that. The Germans eventually tried to counter, but the Me 262 jet fighter was too high on the research tree and the only solution was to call nerf...

Someday i'll remodel the ships to the shape of a stone, a paper and scissors. Unbalanced units get the shape of an well :-P

I'm a noob to SINS but im not a noob to RTS. OK.

Its all boils down to your teck tree and what units u tech.

If im teching lasers.

why would build 25 lrm's and 25 cobalts?

Im gonna build 50 cobalts.

If im teching ballistics why build 25 lrm's and 25 cobalts?

Im gonna build 50 lrm's.

TECH OR DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Very weird logic. You get the units and them the technology to boost them, not upgrades and then the units which use them. The units you get are determined by their role and your situation, and are usually the units with the armor type, damage type and abilities to kill what your enemy is using.

Heavy Cruisers and Javelis/Assailant LR Frigates are exceptions in that their damage types are good against everything, but their direct counters(strike craft) are also very strong against them. LRMs are considered by some to be imbalanced because their hard counters(Fighters) come at tech levels higher than themselves and for considerably higher prices, while their soft counters(Flak) are very narrow-scope products which are purely defensive and give their user no initiative whatsoever.
