Where are the peaceful victories?

Where are the peaceful victories?

The Civ games have several peaceful ways to win. So does GalCiv2. Why is genocide the only option in this game?

Who the hell cares if it is a X2, X3, X4 or whatsoever? Wouldn't you buy a cheap Porsche only because theres a GM-sign on it? Some games you just cannot put in a box with RTS or X4 on it. How would you describe Black&white? RTS? Simulation? Eco-sim? petting zoo?

Its not much of a 4X, but its not a pure RTS either. The problem is that it halfasses both aspects.

Well prattor, im here to answer you. first of all, if you actually wanted peaceful victories, its physically impossible, you have to fight a little, just to get resources and more planets. You cannot conquer the galaxy with only STRICTLY using the culture stations(media hub ect.)you cannot fit that many research stations in one planet, so conquering and defending is a necessity to this game, it was not made to be peaceful. just the name says that SINSof a Solar Empire... so there

Spamming unholy amounts of Deliverance Engines as Advent can give you a win without actually attacking, but I've only seen it work against an AI, and it really required an absurd number of the things (over 20), it also took forever.

This guy was the first to come up with the answer to your question. Culture in general allows for the possibility of a (if not completely peaceful) defense-only victory. (Although, to be honest, it's not exactly a top-rate strategy at the moment.)

this is not a 4X game. It is an RTS game brought up to a larger scale using certain elements of 4X games. Its a hybrid of RTS and 4X but is more heavily on the RTS side of things. No peace without justice. No justice while the alien scum still infests my solar system!

Saying it was 4X was just a marketing ploy to get Stardocks GalCiv fans on board.

marketing ploy makes it sound sinister and disingenuous. I don't think it was motivated by anything like that. The game is legitimately different from most RTS games. The scale of the game is much larger (though a bit smaller than a true 4x game). The economics of the game are much more important and much more detailed than most RTS games (though again, not quite as detailed as in a 4x game). The pace of the game is slower than most RTS games, but not as slow as a 4x game. It really is a hybrid of the two genres, though it is a bit closer to RTS than to 4x. Given that it is closer on the RTS side of things it only makes sense that military conflict should be the main emphasis of the game.
