Feel like I'm out $40

Feel like I'm out $40

Is there a satisfaction guarantee?

I bought this game from Best Buy. They won't allow me to return it. I can't trade it either because registering this game means its mine for good because it told me it can't transfer.

Is there a satisfaction guarantee from the developer?

Anyone want to buy this game from me? I'll give my user/pass and I'd sell it for $30. I just opened it a few days ago and just can't get into it. I just read the BS around the patch problems and just don't want to deal with it.

What pisses me off the most, I think, is the really crappy tutorial that tells me that I can do things, but really leaves out how. Or maybe its the lack of a campaign mode to allow me to familiarize myself with how to start things up . . . Or perhaps its that a game takes 4 hours to play.

What really amazes me is that the ship animations are worse than Homeworld's was and Homeworld was YEARS ago. In Homeworld, turrets moved on ships. Hell, space was moveable in 3d. The battles were so much more action packed. For the most part, battles in this game are "Team 1 approaches team 2, Both teams stare at each other and fire. When one ship gets to 50% health, it flies away."

I kinda wish they put "Really Long Games" and "No Campaign" on the box.

I really hate when reviewers all band together to puff the ratings of a video game just because the developer is small. IMO, this game really doesn't deserve its high praise from the reviewers.

I don't really see how a campaign would help. The basic gameplay is either deep and diverse enough to maintain a sustained interest in the game or it isn't. For me, at least, it isn't. Tacking a story structure onto the game is the last thing I'd suggest as a cure for that problem.

Is it any good? I was thinking of buying it.

If you really wanted to sell it, you would have gone to Ebay and not these forums.

I don't know WTF you were expecting with some kind of in depth tactical game, hardcore micromanagement tactics were deliberately removed in order to curb down on the ham fisted action pace of other more RTS game like Company of Heroes. The micromanagement is still there, you just have the option to surrender it to an inferior AI Play high end Vasari if you think the micromanagement is gone

QFT!!!
4FFA
3 TEC Unfair AI vs 1 Vasari Badass = freaking micromanaging central. And impossible to win I might add.

Just ignore the ones who can't reply with anything better than trolling responses.

My advice, and I say this most sincerely. Do not trust game reviews. Good or bad, many of them only play a game a very short period of time, often go along with a bandwagon and can too often let themselves be swayed by gimmicks and eyecandy. Where possible try to obtain a demo version or find out from friends and people you know who own a game what they think of it. If possible see if you can play before you pay.

Many shops won't allow refunds or exchange of software anymore in particular games. This is because of issues of piracy. I am not saying you are a pirate but I am sure you can understand their reason for lack of refund policy. Try to find somewhere that does have some kind of exchange policy before you buy future games.

Sins is not a game for you and you feel like you have wasted your money. This is sad but it happens to the best of us. One persons wine may be another persons... well you know. And even vice versa!

Now I'm not suggesting anything but I heard there are some sites around who offer swaps for games. Private exchanges if you will. Be careful though and don't look badly at just this one game. E-bay might be another option perhaps see if you can get some exchange or otherwise. Unfortunately it's part of life. It sucks, and it sucks even more so that many shops won't exchange anymore. I hope this has been of some help and future game purchases are better for you.

Stardock's registration has the effect of making their games non-sellable, period. It's damn unfortunate, and something I'll take into account before taking a chance on another SD published game.

i'm with my battlefield game box, looking where it says there is no campaing...oh crap, doesn't say it.

GIMME MY MONEY BACK!

Expecting a developer to guarantee that you will personally like the game is about as naive as you can possibly get.

Sorry fella. The resources were available to you to find out everything there is to know about the game short of playing it. Despite that, you bought a game that you clearly had very little chance of enjoying, and now you want your money back.

How about no. Take some responsibility for your own actions, quit blaming everyone else, and use some judgment next time you make a purchase.

Gee did you ever consider giving them the account info as well?? that makes it very sellable.. also being they can change the accunt name when you give it to them... You can use different accounts for different games and so on... There is no way you can find a better system that enables you to resell a game...

So make sure you take that into account before buying a game from any company other then Star Dock!

There are no campaigns in: Civilization series, Master of Orion series, Sword of the Stars, Gal Civ series (well they are, but anyone who plays games knows its the skirmish here too that matters), Battlefield series, Team Fortress 2. I think there are many other games than these that do not have a single player scripted campaign.

The OP has no valid arguement here. His problem is that he did not educate himself before making a purchase. If $40 is that valuable to the OP then he should have done a lot more research before making a purchase. No where for Sins does it say it has a campaign. Most games that have a campaign usually say so right on the box. If it doesn't say there is a campaign, don't just assume there is one.

Your comparisons to Homeworld 2 aren't valid because it's not comparing apples-to-apples. Sins is way more 4X and empire-level strategy than Homeworld games are. Homeworld 1/2 are true RTS, Sins is a 4X-ish RTS. It seems to me you don't like any of the "4X" part of it and wanted more of a Homeworld sequel. Had you read any reviews specifically rather than listen to the Best Buy salesperson (when has that ever worked out to be a good idea??) and looked at the Metacritic scores (but you didn't read any reviews?) you would have known that it lacks a campaign and has a somewhat middle of the road tutotrial. Almost every review says those are cons to the game, but that they do say is everything else so overwhemingly good that they are all very willing to take the bad with the good.

I've spent lots of money on games I regretted purchasing. I am greatly enjoying Sins. It's part of life. You sometimes buy things you wish you didn't. That may also happen one day if and when you marry. You may wish you never did.

my recommendation is to go on metacritic before you buy a game and look at negative user reviews. I guarantee someone has given this game a 5 because "It is the suxxx0r, no campaign, too slow, it's really 2-D, economy is ghey now!...." etc. THOSE are the valuable reviews even though the person is semi-literate. OR if 5 people write "bugs are killing me!" you know they shipped beta.

I'd say you have to play a few times to really get into it. I enjoyed it the first time but I definitely had no feel for the cap ships or what to do. The Empire tree is really good, not perfect. The balance is good. They obviously FUBARd the economies a little in 1.0.3. Eh what do you want. It's still fun.

No. I did look at the massive list of keybindings. I just didn't notice the up and down piece. More experienced game developers usually put a quick index of them on a piece of paper that I can look at in front of my monitor instead of having to switch menus every time I want to look back at key bindings.

This is the reason I refuse to buy games unless I play them first.

I'm sorry you don't like the game.

I suggest next time playing the game or at the very least read about the game in great detail before buying it.

Oh and just because you do not like the game does not invalidate any of the reviews you heard about (and didn't read). All the reviews about this game are fair and quite good. And you obviously know very little about the way reviews work. Scores give you a overall quick glimpse at a game. One will then have to actually go and read the reviews and other sources to decide if they want the game. What you want is a review or score than can read your mind and it doesn't exist. Would be cool if it did though.

Again, not trying to attack you but if you expect sympathy form me, and others, and refused to even do the most basic research on stuff you buy then do not expect it. Do you buy cars or a house without test driving it or looking at it? Nope, and what your post is tantamount to is just that. And no "The guy at best buy said" and "The score he showed me" do not count.

As for trading away your game. Try eBay.

This is a great game that many people are hopelessly addicted to. If you wanna bash a game for being so crappy you felt like you got robbed. Go bash Two Worlds.

I'm sorry buddy. But you're a fish. You bought a game because a best buy rep told you to buy it? If anything you should be mad at yourself for being so gullible and for being unable to make educated decisions by yourself.

If you were smart, and you were me, you would tell the guy: Maybe next time.
Then, you would go back home, go on the internet and actually READ the reviews about the game. If you would have done that, you would have known exactly how the game plays and exactly what it lacks. That's what i did and the game ended up being exactly as i expected because I read the reviews and thus, knew what to expect. I also knew to expect LONG games(Gamespot, for example, states in the "bad" that you will probably lose sleep over it) and to expect a LACK of a campaign mode. Personally the long games factor was a selling point for me because, although i LOVE Strategy games, traditional RTS games are too fast paced for me to be any good even if i enjoy them, so the slow pace of SINS was something i looked forward to. Basically, I didn't end up disappointed. And, if after reading everything there is to know about the game, you're STILL not convinced your going to enjoy the game. Go on the website, find out if there is a Demo and if not, when it will come out, wait patiently, download, install and try. And while you wait for the demo to come out/download, you could also read the forums or production team posts to find out more about the game and maybe check out what the company policy was for Graphics. You might be disappointed by the visuals and fuming that they are severely outdated. But here's a fact you failed to inform yourself on before you bought the game. The Devs clearly state that their goal was NOT next generation visuals. THEIR GOAL was to reach a market that was as big as possible. And since the majority of PC owners have crappy or barely decent computers, they made a game that was average visually by today's standards in order to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the game lag-free, and they succeeded.

If you're wondering what's the point of reaching a mass market with lower end graphics instead of making a technologically advanced uber realistic game visually, look no further then the most fanboyed company of all time: Blizzard.

They didn't make a lot of games, their games were NEVER advanced in graphics, but they are probably the must successful developpers in the industry if you do an income per game developped ratio. That's because their games are fun and pretty much anyone that has something called a computer can play their games. And they are sticking with the same formula for their upcoming projects: Anyone who's seen starcraft 2 screenshots can tell you that the game is better looking then its predecessor but doesnt even scratch the advanced visual levels of current "next gen" games. But, it will still sell like hotcakes, kind of like sins.

Anyways, this wall of text, just to tell you that next time, before buying ANYTHING, do some research. It pays to know before you spend.

Finally a small example of ME:

I wanted a new MP3 player so i did some research last week. I could have done it the easy way and just buy an Ipod, since EVERYONE has an ipod, right? And since everyone has an Ipod it must be the best thing for me anyways. Wrong! I did some research and found out that the Ipod was bad at playing bass sounds. Sound quality is a must for me. I searched other options and ended up chosing the Creative ZEN after reading about spec, prices, and various reviews. I ended up grabbing a 4GB ZEN for 120$. Sure, 4 GB is small compared to most ipods, but the price was right, i dont even NEED that much space, i got all the features i could ever want, including videos and FM radio AND the sound quality is absolutely fantastic, the sound quality sits between my Oldsmobile Alero's sound-system quality and my X-Fi soundcard.

SO yeah, do some research, it pays to be informed.
