[WIP] OpticNerve's Race Portraits

Oooh pikturz!

http://theopticnerve.deviantart.com

So I've been working on some new race portraits for Sins. I'm planning (hopefully) on having two sets for each race, a male and female option for players to choose from since variety is always a good thing. Here's what I have so far:

TEC - Male

Advent - Male: WIP

Vasari - Male: WIP

Hopefully I'll get the male pack done somewhat soon for those interested in using them and get started on the female pack. Just thinking about how I'm going to draw up a female Vasari is already giving me a headache...

The fact that they're genetically engineered / cloned does not make them an all male race, just an fyi.

Like another race from another sci-fi, after many years of genetic alteration and cloning, the genome breaks down and characteristics which separate male and female are eroded. In lamen terms, they're asexual.

If you're up to drawing some more after you get done, Optic, I'd like to see a more refined TEC avatar. You know the usual clean-cut military style, a younger male in uniform, maybe throw in a beret for flavor?

I would suppose so. I had some crazy idea, but I guess the most distinguishing part of either gender would stand to be the female... you know.

Eh. I would suppose. I have to say my idea was more original... But besides that:

Either way, the Vasari don't have a sexual gender (no gender-specific anatomy) but an avatar may still preserve the original facial characteristics of something that would appear female.

As for the avatars, for both TEC, Advent, and the Vasari, I want to see "younger" versions... all the commanders are older, which is logical; you don't get full reign of a race when you're a child. However, I'm tired of working with ancient men and women. Something more appealing would be nice. I like Saikou XI's impression for a TEC. Also, there don't seem to be female leaders for TEC as well, so it would be nice to see a reversal there. I like the TEC leader you drew up... he could be a war veteran with biotech implants/replacements.
But here's what I want
A young (or prime) female leader for TEC
A young male or female Advent leader
Your conception of a "female" Vasari, and keep working on your current Vasari

Yeah I plan on having a younger female TEC leader once I finish up the current two I'm juggling. The male Advent I drew up isn't all that old actually. From my guess, he's around his 30's to early 40's. The shadows probably make him look a bit older, but I'm in the process of cleaning that up a little bit :] The female variant I plan on drawing will most likely be young'ish as well.

I think I'll actually stick with the "female Vasari" thing, but alter it a bit so that it could be a slender asexual Vasari that fits in with some of the default Vasari avatars. The one I drew up is a bit more bulky than the default ones since I knew that when I wanted to play as a Vasari, I wanted to pick a portrait that was a battle-ready, more hulking type of Vasari that looked like it was meant for nothing but war. >:D

Just because they're asexual doesn't mean they don't have defining characteristics anymore. Males would still be the heavier and distinguishable, while females would retain their slender form and a more "refined" facial structure with prominent cheek bones, etc.

That's of course under the assumption that the differences between the male and the female form in the Vasari follow the same rules as in Humans. However, given their somewhat insectoid look it's entirely possible that their females have the larger heavier form with particularly strong and nasty looking jaw and teeth because their ancestors used to bite the male's head off after mating. :D

Great job Optic, I particularly like the Advent male. Speaking of which, you think you might have a full body portrait of the female version done ;)

I just have to join in on the praise and tell you what a great job your doing. The pictures are amazing.

Wierd every time I see Vasari I think reptilian. From reading the history and what I see I picture them as a patriarchal society where females have zero standing. Kind of like how some ancient societies held them.

Wierd every time I see Vasari I think reptilian. I get the feel from the manual they we're a patriarchal society where females we're basically status symbols or like they we're seen in some ancient cultures before people smartened up.

Either or I like the portraits , can't wait for the mod/pack.

Edit: sigh double post sorry.

Woohoo, an update. Worked on the Advent Male a bit more and we're nearing the homestretch for him. Thanks a lot for all the feedback and patience :]

A thought on what female vasari would look like.

I remember seeing an old post by one of game's artists, Ignus Dei I believe, where he talked about some of his portraits. One of them was a "Veiled girl Vasari."

Now, the vasari that comes in the pack with the robot advent and bald TEC guy is the only one that seems to be wearing any sort of veil. In addition, looking at it closely, the features of that particular vasarin do look kinda feminine.

If that vasari is female, as I suspect, then you have a good starting place on making your female vasari portrait.

It's kinda weird, when I did a google search for the post, there's text in the google description of the post, but nothing in the post itself.
