I'm sure this is a pretty easy answer for some of you, but I'm as smart as Forrest Gump....

How do you jump from star system to star system when there are more than one star with surrounding planets

Each faction has a research option in the civilian line (something to the tune of 'Long Range Jumps') that will allow you to jump between stars.
