Xtremely Disappointed (locked - repeat post)

Advertisements are so great. Why dont they include:

only a handful of researching techs.

cannot build your ships, prebuilt.

cant wait to start fighting only played an hour and already

dont know if i saw it on an advertisment or i made it up

in my mind, i thought u can see the terrain of the land,

zoom in or place structures. cant wait to be bombarded

with nothing on the planet.

Ready to bombard this game with leftover

fireworks.

Games are giving up the stradegy and game play

for one person for fighting prebuilt  fleets online.

of course u cannot have alot of stradegy fighitng

against players who just like shooting games,

players might start to cry if other players

beat them with there mind and tech and

made personally built fleets and tech.

I get upset everytime I buy new games

end up throwing them in the garbage

and playing 20 year old games.

Really, it's an excellent game, considering that it is made by a minor company, and that it is placed in real time. The first galciv never had a ship editor either. You must be one of those complete fools with no life that EA sends to flame other games. Everyone can have their own tastes, but your complaints simply go overboard.

by the way, there really are no worthwhile 20 year old games to speak of.  :p

Sorry you are disappointed but I honestly don't feel we misrepresented those points at any point. We've been in open beta since last March (over a year), there has been public *gameplay* videos on all the major sites (youtube, gametrailers.com) for over a year, we've been involved with the public here on the forums for over 2 years and every interview, preview and review all reflected an accurate state of the game. I've also been asked consistantly from the very start if you could build on the surface of the planet in 3d and I've always said no and likewise with designing your own ships (I've also always given detailed answers as to why we weren't including these features). Sins has way more research than any other real-time strategy game and I pretty sure it even beats some 4X games. Finally, I don't think I can find a single review or credible person that doesn't agree that of all the real-time strategy games out there, Sins certain brings the strategy back into the game - there is a whole lot more thinking going on in this than any other I've played in a very long time. We certainly didn't give up on the strategy and many many people have thanked us for not doing so, which is how they feel many other games have gone.

If you've only played an hour, keep at it - I'm sure you'll find some merit in the game and you won't feel like you've wasted your money :)

What, we needed TWO identical posts like this?

At first, the formatting made me think it was poetry, but it's not very good poetry. ^_^

You guys didn't misrepresent anything, Blair. The only reason anyone buys this game and is surprised at the type of game it is is because they haven't looked at a single article online, or a single magazine review.

Heck, I even knew that it didn't have a single player campaign, and I bought it anyway. Wow!

Personally, I don't think there's any complaint less valid than, "It takes too long to play". Heaven forbid that every game be a rush-fest that lasts less than an hour.

Blair, that was nice of you, but I'm surprised you waisted your time replying to the post of someone that has played the game one hour, and complains he can't build "on" planets, just around them.

This was either a troll, or someone that really actually only played the game for an hour, and decided he did'nt like it. Either way, I think the OP should spend his time and money on that classic strategy game called "How to piece together sentences in a comprehensive way".

You can't account for the retarded...

Ummm, why is this posted twice under two different threads? The other is at:

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/304511

And why is the formatting so messed up?

I'm having a really hard time trying to take away anything constructive from this post or the other identical one (as well as read it)...

I think there is one thing that is slightly misleading and it also depends on personal perception. That is, that the game is advertised as a "real time 4X" game

For many people, when they think of a 4x game, they think of MoO 1/2, gal civ, etc. That is, games that give you really really huge tech trees, custom ships which use the various "ingredients" you've gained from reseach, and advanced diplomacy. These games have tremendous amounts of strategy because there's a heck of a lot of variables weighing any decision. Sins was advertised as a RT4X game. For people who don't read reviews or only see advertisements, they may be lulled into believing that sins is like the aforementioned games but without a turn button.

For others, "4x" may simply mean a turn based RTS. After all, "4x" stands for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate. These teams are so general that they really apply to every single RTS, turn based or not.

I still don't understand why the devs take their time to respond to the most idiotic posts like this and never say a word in threads that have legitimate discussion occurring. They jump right on stupid complaint threads that would be better off left to die, and their right there to praise people that make threads like, "YEAH STARDOCK RULEZZZ!!", but they are invisible in many of the posts that have legitimate problems (Oh no, intelligent criticism!) which need to be addressed. It's quite annoying and frustrating when addressing gamer feedback is one of the things Stardock and Ironclad advertise the most.

Not that great a poem.

Maybe if you re-read your own post you will find the understanding which seems to elude your grasp :P

"Thank you" threads and misc generic threads make no grand claims of validity or assumptions of legitimacy which are, in many cases, only "legitimate" in the minds of a minority. As such, it's much easier for IC to pop in generic threads and say a few words without getting dragged down into an argument with various people insisting their issues are legitimate, which not everyone (IC included) may actually agree with.

Furthermore, generic threads don't actually scream for developer attention as most of the "legitimate issues" threads that tend to contain "I hope devs see this/post/discuss" and a hidden expectation that they will get special attention because they worded the same thing that's been said 30 times prior in a slightly different way.

Stardock and Ironclad don't let much slip past them, so yes they see that 31st post about how the siege frigates are useless now. But after already replying to the first few, what's the point replying to every new one that gets posted?

In short, screaming "Why don't the devs pay attention to me, I have legitimate issues!" is more likely to earn you quite the opposite. 'Tis the way the world works :)

Maybe it's because they like to help new players get into the game rather than hear the same boring whines of old players for the 100th time this week.

But you are right, there are legitimate problems which need to be addressed, but they are addressed by devs working on their offices, not by devs posting replys to rants on the forums all day.

I do have a Real Poem  :)  for this Amazing Game!  ;)

THE UNKNOW

Galaxy so far above the Earth

you bright light attract me.

I hear you calling me, to take the challenge.

I must venture into the unknown to see what lives

beyond us.

Will there be life

Will it still existe?

Will it be destroyed?

Will this mission in the unknown be dangerous

Will I have to battle with The Advant or T.E.C?

Will I have to Face the Aliens from Vasari Empire?

I must get ready for my adventure

To see what is out their in our great big Galaxy.

1,2,3, Blast off

And let the adventure begins

There's your problem. You've only played the game for an hour.

What is the motivation of someone creating a post like this? Is it self expression like graffiti?

Well, it doesn't look this guy wants help, he just signed up to say how bad this game is and how he wants to trash it. Why even bother with him then? There's posts every day exactly like this.

There are rants, but there are intelligent posts as well... don't some of them deserve replies? The devs are not here all day, they can only monitor the forums so much, so why waste time with posters like this when there are literally hundreds of other people who actually want to hear some responses from them?

So far, I mostly just see the devs jumping to defend the game, and giving generic, uninformative responses which really do not indicate they're reading our posts, gaging our input, or taking our criticisms seriously. That's what most game developers do, the frustrating thing is Stardock and Ironclad claimed to be different, and that they would listen to gamers about things that need to be improved. I cannot count how many times people have been on here clamoring for AI improvements (which should have been made before the game even came out, along with tons of other glitches), and yet I see no dev responses in their posts or mine. Instead, they're spending the limited amount of time they have on the forums responding to stuff like this. That's what baffles me, and what frustrates me. Why should I even bother posting, and going into significant detail on what things in the game need improvement, and having many posters echo my same thoughts, only to be ignored? Then to top it all off, a guy comes to the forums, tells them the game sucks and he's going to throw it in the trash gets a response from a dev. :(

As far as devs working hard in their offices to fix the problems...well...it remains to be seen if that's true.
