when starcraft 2 comes out...

okay...just out of curiosity, when and after starcraft 2 coes out, how many of you will give up playing Sins of a Solar Empire/Galciv2 Twilight of the Arnor/Spore so that all you folks can get addicted by Blizzard's new addictive game playing drug.

The way everyone is debating about strategy about Sins, the strategic aspect is feeling to be as complex as starcraft...if only SD and IC will patch the AI to version 1.14/1.15 come end of the year.

Allow me to be cynical :

I venture the hypothesis that most members of our local (and vocal) hyper-competitive « elite » will absolutely migrate to StarCrack 2 and its Blizzard ladders ... ASAP.

My hope is that SINS, by then, will have evolved more in the direction of GalCiv 2 (a 4X Space Empire Builder) than SC 2 (a fast & furious RTS).

I have been following SC2 developments for quite some time.I would say that SC2 wont be as good as i would hope it be.Even if it release,i would still be playing Sins/DoW/CoH etc.

Blizzard have been screwing small little things from time to time and that kinda put me off from this game.

I expect that I'll probably play it for a week or two before moving on to something more my style, much like I did with Warcraft III.

Looking forward to mapping in sc2 (wc3's ingame scripting language, JASS is just so horrible.)

I know i am in minority but i truly hate Blizzard products... Thier art work makes me cringe >_<

I will try Starcraft 2 for sure but am not at all hyped about it...

The only reason I'll be getting SC2 is for the singleplayer portion of the game. I want to see how the storyline goes on. SC2 looks to be just more of the same old RTS formula. Dawn of War (for the resource system anyway), World in Conflict, and Sins have changed my expectations for a good RTS, so I'll still be here :)

*hands you a cookie jar. Filled with real cookies. Good ones, too!*

I'll play SC2 for the SP campaign, but SD/IC have the deed to my soul so I'm not going anywhere :P

Well I play all kinds of games. 4X (galciv), RTS (c&c3,starcraft), Puzzle (peggle!), and FPS (TF2,BF2). Just recently gave up a BF2 career of over 900 hours. Good buddy and I were one of the best chopper teams in the world. But I just got burned out on it and the horrible support for the game. There are universally agreed upon issues with the game that have never been addressed in the 3 years its been out. Been with stardock since the first Galciv and as a guy whos been mashing buttons for over 20yrs I find them to be an absolute breath of fresh air. Playing a game that gets constant fixes/content upgrades is beyond awesome. There are a lot of good games that hit the market these days but 95% die out quick due to lack of support/intelligent support by the devs/publishers for the game and its online community. One of the reasons starcraft is so popular is because of the enormous amount of support Blizzard has given it over the years. I think that Stardocks approach to piracy and continued support is right on.

I will continue playing SoaSE for a long time but my buddies and I will also try Vegas 2 and Starcraft 2.

I know I'm going to get SC2 since I was a huge SC fan, so I'll probably migrate to playing it for a while. I only would do so in the hopes that when I check on sins again it'll be on patch 1.1, the AI will be fixed and the game will be balanced... Well I can dream can't I?

Amen, Nephilim! I really don't like the cartoony look that things took for Warcraft III and afterwards.

But don't get me wrong, I'll still play SC2. And as the OP mentioned I expect to put some time into Spore as well. In fact, besides the occasional Wii or 360 game that comes along, I expect that GCII:TotA, SoaSE, Spore, and SC2 will pretty much be what I play this year on the PC.

Starcraft 2 will hopefully get rid of the competitive elite that are constantly coming up with new ways to abuse Sins, unbalance things, and ruin multiplayer. I look forward to its release despite the fact that I would never buy it. The first Starcraft and Brood War were terrible games with no strategy other than rushing or massing dozens upon dozens of the same unit. Starcraft 2 is more of the same. People complain about LRM spam here...well, the latest screenshots show the same kind of spam with Starcraft 2 units. Also, the preview interviews are not helping one bit.

I am much more interested in GTA IV when it hits PC.

I dunno, I might get starcraft II for the single player but it really just looks like another expansion to starcraft I. To me it looks like all they did was add some new units and graphics and a few neat mechanics like the walkers walking across terrain. It doesn't seem like a sequal in the way that WCIII was a sequal to WCII. That completely changed the gameplay (one of the first games with a distinct counter system, armor types, etc...), added the hero system, added two new races, and is a very good improvement. I don't see anything like that in SCII, but there will be more story and story is cool.

I will stay with Sins, thank you.

I'll play both.

For straight RTS action instead of migrating to sc2 I'd rather play the DoW series. I will continue playing SoaSE since it's a great game (and will most likely be my game for the year) however I'm a big fan of the DoW action and strategies. It just feels more epic and brutal plus there are so many more race options which translates into cool/different abilities.

SC2 is bound to have a great story, Bliz just has a big history using the lore to enhance the games. Like it or not it's one component that made WoW such a success.

This thread is rather sickening, am I supposed to expect to read backhanded vitrol against part of the player community in every topic now, even something as innocuous as "Who is going to play Starcraft?". Am I correct in assuming that this was the intent of the thread?

Seriously, let's create a thread that proposes to ban compettive players from the forum, name the criteria for the aforementiond individuals, then name the individuals.

You people are disgusting. You haven't even met any of these people yet, but you're bringing along the categorical baggage with you in every thread you go with no intent other than to hurt.

Not sure who that was directed at, but you pretty much shot yourself in the foot by backhandedly insulting everyone who you feel backhandedly insult some others ;P

Amen to that.

And to the topic at hand, I'd be surprised if I bought SC2. Unless the campaign is non-linear and strategic (ala Dawn of War: Dark Crusade or Rise of Nations) I don't really bother with pure RTS's anymore.
Actually I thought I read in one of the previews that they were going to do a Dawn of War-ish style campaign where you could pick what/where to attack and such..

But I might just be losing it also :P

Yes, damn those ladder players, especially people who play WC3 and TA. Those are the worst kind!

Is there a plugin I can use that can make an entire thread shown as glittertext?

I've always appreciated StarCraft, but I've enjoyed other RTS games more, such as Age of Empire 2 which I think is of the finest in the genre, and now Sins of a Solar Empire which is distinct enough in its own right that it's not directly competing with the StarCraft's of the market.

I'm going to completely ignore SCII when it comes out. Not going to buy it, download the demo, visit the website or read the forums. I've never been overly fond of Blizzard games, the art style bugs me and I find their user interface to be poorly laid out and overly large. I also really don't go in for games where the emphasis is on a linear, play-it-once story anymore, and I don't really do multi-player.

The thing that really gets my goat about SCII though is that finally the RTS genre is doing some interesting and positively new things. Games like Sins, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes and so on are actually inovating and changing the way I play RTS games. The genre has, in other words, finally escaped the shadow of Starcraft. Then SCII is going to drag it right back to ten years ago and sell a bajillion copies despite being basically a retread of ten year old design ideas. It fills me with a terrible fear that it will kill off companies' willingness to actually take chances and make interesting and new games, and instead we'll be buried under a wave of SCII clones.

So yes, in other words, I'll still be playing Sins and GalCiv.
