Unable to apply 1.3 patch with downloaded version

I’ve looked around some for a similar report or maybe an announcement stating a similar problem, but have found nothing.  I haven’t had the opportunity to search the forums (unfortunately) because they seem to go down quite often…

Has anyone else had issues with this?  I downloaded and installed the game - and have been playing it for some time now.  However, when I try to apply the official 1.3 patch, I get this:

The path registry value at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins

appears to be blank.

Please make sure you have the game installed.

This update installation will now exit.

Anyone have any ideas?  Again, sorry for not being able to check out the forums completely...

EDIT:  *Sorry for the double post.  Can someone delete this one?

If you navigate to that folder using regedit (Start -> Run -> Type in regedit & hit enter)

Navigate to the directory:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins

In that "Key" there should be the following:
Path=C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire
Exe=Sins of a Solar Empire.exe
Version=1.03
Updated=03/14/2008 0:08:20
Type=production

Thats for my updated version, the 1.02 version should be something like this:
Path=C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire
Exe=Sins of a Solar Empire.exe
Version=1.02
Updated=03/14/2008 0:08:20
Type=production

Obviously with a different date/time (not that it actually matters when it was updated).

Now you can actually add these values in yourself by just right-clicking in the right hand window of the registry editor & creating a new "string value" for each of the above mentioned things:

Path, Exe, Version, Updated & Type

Once those are created you can then Double click on each of the "strings" to enter the appropriate information for each one.

Or you can download the one I extracted from my registry for you from:
http://rapidshare.com/files/100457510/sins.reg.html

Btw you should check this registry file once you download it to make sure it is exactly what you want to be inserting in to the registry to check the file just right click on the file & click "edit" and all the information inside it should appear like so:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins]
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Stardock\\TotalGaming\\Sins of a Solar Empire"
"Exe"="Sins of a Solar Empire.exe"
"Version"="1.02"
"Updated"="01/01/2008 0:00:00"
"Type"="production"

Hope this helps

Wow, thank you so much. That is very helpful indeed.
I navigated to the location that it cited in the registry when I first got the error, and noticed that there was no "\Drengin.net\sins", there was only "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock". Very puzzling to me because the game runs perfectly... Anyway, I will add the missing strings when I get home. I just wasn't sure what to add otherwise I would have done it already - your're a life saver!

Yea I think its a slight problem with the game not replicating the strings once it is copied on to another computer or installed from a backup disc of sorts I had the same issue on my spare pc. Glad I could help ^^

Looks like the game needs more than just this registry key to work.

Are there any other entries that I can use for 1.05?

Hello,

i have the same problem. I want to install patch 1.03 in 1.00, but this message appears:

The path registry value at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\s ins

appears to be blank.

Please make sure you have the game installed.

This update installation will now exit.

I tried to reinstall a few times, but nothing changed. Also my firewall/internet security does not block anything...

My Version:

Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity v 1.00
DVD version PC
german

Hope someone can help me. This solution above does not work for me :(

This will not work for you as this is for patch 1.03 for the original Sins. You have Trinity which is has all three Sins. The original Sins is now at 1.191 version. Go to www.impulsedriven.com and download Impulse. It is how this game is now brought up to date.

Could it be this the reason why i installed the game (SINS Trinity) from Impulse on a portable drive (My Passport) but when i play it (on another pc) the version of the game is not the latest one? The game plays fine and as far as i can say, the latest features seem to work so the game seems to be updated but the number version is not.

 If so, is there a way to fix it?

Thanks , Gerry.

My guess would be to copy the string file on the portable drive over to the game files that is on your PC.
