Abnormal memory usage?

I'm consistently seeing memory usage of around a gig of Sins in Task Manager. It doesn't seem to affect performance or multi-tasking (I'm on dual-monitor), but it seems a little odd when most (much more demanding) games are 200-500mb at max.

What's up?

I just started playing my first large map with 1.3 (single star) and well about 4 hours into the game it came to a complete halt. Task manager said Sins was using 1.9 gigs of memory.? I managed to save the game and tried to reload it and ran into the same problem. Computer stats below, and if anyone has a guess as what's going on, thanks.

Windows XP (32bit)
Intel e6700
4 GB RAM
320 HD
8800 GTX

The high memory usage is normal when you play with everything set to Highest (graphics).

The game will gladly use the memory available to it. Highest textures in particular will require large amounts of memory.

I do have every graphic option set to Highest so I'll try turning that down a little, but for some reason that doesn't seem like it should cause the game to stop responding, especially when I was completely zoomed out in the map view. Thank you.

Ah, that makes sense. I'd expect less of that to go on in the system memory rather than the graphics card's memory, though. I suppose with the higher-res and detail it makes sense.

So does SINS benefit from having 4 gigs instead of 2gigs? Or video memory is most important. I always thought anything above 2 gigs now was a waste.

The game uses a lot of memory but it's very stable and I'm very happy with the stability..

In general x64 is a waste unless you go around 6GB or higher.

I don't believe Sins is large-address aware, so even on a 64 bit system it'll still be capped to 2gb.
