Halo MOD?

Halo MOD?

Ok so I am just throwing this idea out there because I am a Halo fanatic and I think that this game could easily incorporate the Halo universe into it. I am not a very good designer but I can provide support and more ideas. There are already two races that could easily be changed into the Humans and the Covenant( TEC and Advent). All we would have to do would be to change ships some and add  gauss guns to most TEC Cap ships. I know this might take a long time but if it means that we will finally have a Halo space combat game then it will be well worth it.

There is no point in making a Halo mod since Halo Wars is coming out next year. You can just play this same styled game on the 360 or on the PC when HW comes out.

Halo wars will not be a PC game or have any space battles. that is what i have heard.

Go to Halo.Wikia.com it has lots of info for Halo ships, like material, crew compliment, eras, etc. If you need any more info, go there.

Well the books often describe the MAC rounds as being red fiery balls of death, so the standard TEC Gauss Platform just redder and bigger would work for your standard ship-based MAC. The SMAC's however are white-hot and bigger. Much bigger. I was thinking a actual ball at the front with a flaming trail behind it. Kinda like a meteor.

I really want to help with this mod, but i suck with the modding tools. I found a picture with sillouhettes of ships and their sizes. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://lh3.google.com/_O4EM5b61vNY/RyTqdfNd_dI/AAAAAAAAALI/pgcjYTpppoE/s800/CapitalShips-scale.gif&imgrefurl=http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/XNo4H6raAZDjvvNHbJA3NA&h=458&w=800&sz=81&hl=en&start=6&um=1&tbnid=SgWHNzvOAG_3gM:&tbnh=82&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3D%2Bhalo%2Bships%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7GGLR

thats the best i could find.

I guess the real question is whether or not Bungie considers the games or books closer to their vision, because the ship-based MACs and SMACs were yellowy tinged in Halo 2 and Halo 3. Of course, in H3, we're not entirely sure what the ships were firing at the Forerunner dreadnought. Well, except for shivas. They wouldn't risk nukes.

As has been stated, Halo Wars doesn't have any space battles, and wont be released for the PC any time soon (If ever, allthough it prolly will, look at the Halo games).

Also Heaven, you have some real nice models. The only thing I didn't like, is a lot them didn't fit the UNSC design scheme. Some of them were pointlessly big, and spindly, and weak looking. If you look at any UNSC ship they are all pretty ugly, basicly giant bricks. Which is what makes them awsome, as it's realistic. They don't have shields, or anything like that, so they make their ships extremely solid and structurally sound. A lot of your models lacked that and so didn't really fit.

Also, as for the MAC rounds. Go by the games, as far as I have allways heard the chain of Halo canon goes Games first, then books, then comics. So if the games show a yellowy fireball, and the books say it's red, make it yellow.

Well, I just watched the frigate firing scene from Halo 3, and they don't actually show the rounds themselves. However, if the trail is any indication, they are yellow. Here's a reference image:

Here

Edit: If I get time, I'll watch the Halo 2 playthrough on my Legendary disc to see if I can get a view of the shell from the SMAC.

Edit again: Well, I don't know if it was a limitation in what was recorded or the game itself but I didn't see any shells in the H2 playthrough. There was a yellow-ish explosion but nothing actually launched from the platform.

Well, if we're going to keep it as canon as possible, we won't be able to see the MAC because the round fires a fourth the speed of light, correct me if I'm wrong. The trail should be visible for a second or two so thats what we should worry about.

Its in the lvl the Ark. Right before the flood ship comes out of no where.... no where being slipspace. The beam you see is the standard MAC shell being fired I belive.

I had a thought about the Covvy ships... Their capital ships are several hundred KM long, like High Charity, although we probobly wont see it in any mod soon. The Standard Carrier is about 5.3 KM long. To actually make it fair, we need to make UNSC ships either really cheap, or Covvy ships really expensive. Because in the books, it says it takes the UNSC to out number the Covvys by about 10 ships just to win a fight.

It was the end of the level, The Storm, right before Floodgate. I'm gonna see if there's anything to see in the covenant on covenant fight at the beginning of The Ark level.

It's not letting me edit my post anymore, but I found 3 shots. None of them having any guns being fired but it should potentially help give a sense of scale and some of the ship design/color.

If there was to be a Halo mod ( which i would love having been wishing for a halo space combat game since i read the books) I would like to see the MAC cannon and the plasma torpedos as realistic( towards the books' reality) as possible meaning if a covenant ship's shields are down and it gets hit by 3 MAC rounds i dont want that thing walking/ floating away from that id like near instant explosion. also id like to see exploding big ships doing damage to others to near by and this can be helped by having ships react when a big one is close to destruction by moving away. Im not a modder so if i suggested impossible things please be gentle in letting me know I'm just throwin some ideas out there

treetop your ideas are good but the explosion taking out other ships cant be done(at least for now) and somehow well do the rest

If we are to do that, we need to make MAC firing a speical ability, or make the Covvy ships powerful.

I just got an amazing idea. If anyone has halo 3, to get all the extreme details, do the level "The Ark", get to the place with the "Docked" Frigate, quit, then go to theater. From there, you can see how it moves from orbit and get an idea of movment and detail.

The Covvy ships bombard should be called "Glass planet".
I found a picture of a covvy warship and a Halycon-class warship (i think). It was a mod of Empire At War. If they can do it, we can... maybe.... hopefully... yes... =)

Humans shouldn't have any sort of bombardment ability. It doesn't make sense they'd nuke their own planets, and I can't recall a single instance when they ever did. Humans should get a "Invade planet". It's been talked about in many mods, maybe even this one. Instead of fireing nukes, the human ships launch pelicans and Albatross' (It's from Halo Wars) and invade the planet with ground forces.

Covies should get both, depending on how you wanna add MAC's. You could give covie warships the ability to launch ground forces from the edge of the gravity well (outside of the MAC fireing range) and let them fight on the ground to destroy the MAC generators, so the covie ships can move in and glass the planet. I did that with my WC3 map. The SMAC platforms could be killed, but since they can one-hit kill a carrier (That big one in the pics above) it would be near suicide to attack it, so the covie player had to land ground forces to kill the mac generators so all the SMAC platforms went offline. Would deffinently add a nice dynamic to the game.

i dont know about the planetary assault maybe we can figure it out somehow, for now i have done a MAC gun and im waiting for CanadaMan to respond to what to do next

What do you mean? In terms of movement, you don't get to see a whole lot, it just zooms in and stops. Not to mention that I'd only be able to do pictures so movement wouldn't be all that easy to capture. However, if it's detailed shots of the ship, then I can do that.

Well i haven't heard from Acolyte for a few good weeks so he may not even be in the picture anymore. When I get the MAC inplace for the frigate DanMan skinned for me (still haven't gotten it back BTW, just got pictures) then I will make a new topic. Thanks for your patience guys. I have replyed to KillerKid and am waiting to see what his MAC looks like.

That actually sounds fairly do-able i'll just get the little colony ships and replace them with pelicans. The resulting explosions would be the invasion taking place (i'd make them less nuclear looking)
