Halo MOD?

Halo MOD?

Ok so I am just throwing this idea out there because I am a Halo fanatic and I think that this game could easily incorporate the Halo universe into it. I am not a very good designer but I can provide support and more ideas. There are already two races that could easily be changed into the Humans and the Covenant( TEC and Advent). All we would have to do would be to change ships some and add  gauss guns to most TEC Cap ships. I know this might take a long time but if it means that we will finally have a Halo space combat game then it will be well worth it.

That would be a HUGE help! Thanks ;)

For the initial release keep it simple.

The intial release is just gonna be a ship models as well as new weapons. Later releases will have gameplay changes, buildings, and icons.

Hey, you gonna include Halo's main menu music in your mod? Kinda hard to have Halo without the music.

Are there enough Covenant ships to use for the Mod at the moment?

The initial beta will only have UNSC ships, no covies.

its a good idea. but dont advertise it. there was a mod for C & C Generals that was halo, but bungie and microsoft got way mad at them and made then stop makeing it, and closed the website and everything.

so if you do make one do it under the table and dont advertise it, but email it to me =D [email protected]

Oi, people need to stop making posts like this. I'll list it for easy reading.

1: Bungie didn't close the mod down, infact, I think they even helped a little, but don't quote me on this.

2: Microsoft closed down the mod because it would have interfered with sales of their game, Halo Wars.

3: The C&C mod was ground-based, as is Halo Wars. This mod is space-based, Halo Wars is not. So this mod would not affect sales of Halo Wars in any way, and so Microsoft wouldn't care. The only threat is if they decide to add space combat to Halo Wars.

4: The mod is allready being made, and the beta is nearly ready for release.

Sorry if this sounds rude, but people CONSTANTLY saying Microsoft will close the mod down cuz they did it to the C&C one is getting real, real old.

amen colt. and by the way if they do shut us down we just have to change the name and say the items in question only look like they are from halo

Why state the obvious?

If i may, covies have several plasma batteries on their space station as with the refueling base in halo: first strike.

Well in the alpha me and CaptKeyes have music currently in. That could change due to copyright infringement concerning using licensed music. However, I could release the mod and then slap a "Halo music mod pack" on the pirate bay  ;)

Actually according to Microsoft's Game Content Usage Rules, "the music from Halo 3 is available for your use in non-profit ventures thanks to an arrangement with O’Donnell/Salvatori, Inc., composers of this iconic theme."

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/developer/rules.htm

While the rules were created with Machinima and gameplay montages in mind, the use of intentionally general language like "non-profit ventures" implies that it can be applied to other projects such as mods. As long as you use the "[The title of your Item] was created under Microsoft’s “Game Content Usage Rules” using assets from GAMENAME, © Microsoft Corporation" disclaimer, you should avoid any potential copyright issues. Also according to the page, the disclaimer can simply be a ReadMe file downloaded with your mod.

There shouldn't be any problem with including Halo 3 OST music in your mod, and now I'm expecting it ;)

Nice, does that apply to all Halo soundtracks? Because I believe only the first Halo had that iconic menu music.

Ahhh, that's the catch: the webpage doesn't say. But I think, since they specify the Halo 3 OST and not just "Halo music," it only applies to that specific soundtrack. However, you could either use a similarly iconic song (like H3's "Finish the Fight"), find a particular segment of one of the H3OST's songs that greatly resembles the original theme and loop it, or obtain a music license (good luck with that: they can be real expensive, something i'm not sure you'll want to do for something with a $0 profit margin).

Another option is to just go ahead and use the song: best case scenario, they don't notice; worst case scenario, you get your @$$ sued; middle ground: they ask that you remove the song from future downloads. Ultimately, though, I wouldn't worry too much about it; when people unlicensed music in Machinima (and, believe me, a lot of them do), properly crediting the artist is usually enough to keep the lawsuits at bay. It's a risk I leave up to you.

My advice would be to take one of my earlier suggestions, since they're safe and would provide all the fanboys with some real Halo music. However, I have downloaded a mod that uses Motorhead's "The Game", and I'm not sure whether it's licensed or not.

Well we already have a bunch of Halo music in for the UNSC so thats a load off my back knowing that. Right now, its an even mix of all the music from all three Halos. I'm just gonna put up the disclaimer and credit them and hope for the best :P

A space combat game sound fun butttt. if you know anything about the "HALO" Universe the combat must not be balanced. Humans are utterly ruined in space we know this from reading the books it would be extremely difficult to be humans low weapons damage with eception of the "mac gun" and "Mac platforms". For an analogy it would be like send men with muskets to fight men with "Uzi's".

But with all that aside good look and I hope that it is good

We've discussed this, and it HAS to be balanced, otherwise noone will ever play the UNSC, since who wants to play a game where they're guaranteed to lose? The solutiom came up with was the covies would be far stronger, but build slower, and have more expensive ships. While the UNSC will be far weaker, but build faster and have cheaper ships. So if the covies ever catch a UNSC fleet with even numbers, it'll be like the books.

I dont know if the the SMAC will work that well, cuz i modded the novlith cannon to fire at ships and kill any ship in one shot. (except a level 8 or higher cap ships) then i set up a map that gives the AI tons of ships and my player a planet with about six novalith cannons. but the AI would never attack they just stayed at their planet then i scrapped 4 of the cannons and they attacked instantly. i dont know if this will affect your mod or not but if anyone can help me out that would be great. keep up the good work.
P.S. if u still need the shiva i have a nuke ability that works perfectly it even has a seperate EMP shockwave that will disable ships. (I used bailknights capital ship explosion and it look great)
