carrier benefits?

a suggestion

I am going to pull a leg here...

what if, there's some kind of benefit when strikecrafts battle near their carrier due to, let's say, easier coordination?

for example, there's a game where drones benefit from battling near their hosts by being able to change targets once their initial targets is destroyed.

That way, we would have some KIND of incentive to attach the carriers to the main fleet, instead of camping outside the gravity well, jumping out at a moments' notice.

Historically, carriers never mix it up...not their role in battle.

But....using the this kind of logic, you could MOD an ability with a max range that grants fighters some bonus, or fast repairs them or ups their stats. By giving the ability(of course with a cool down) a maximum range, you would force the carries to be closer to the actual battle.

Just an idea, give it a try...

Carriers should NOT have incentives for mixing it up in a straight battle. That contradicts their purpose of being long-ranged hard-hitters.

You have a good ideal there, and it one of the problems with the carriers in this game. That why there are about 4 post out there about using long range carriers and close combat ships. If you what, I can post what I think the "incentives" should be. But the main problem, is that the long range carriers and the close combat ships, can't seem to support each other at any ranges. Which forces you to build a carrier spam fleet. or a balanced close combat fleet.

Would the Vasari Skirantra Carrier's Microphasing Aura ability count, Danmax?

It assists neabry strikecraft.

Yes it would count, as well as the repair cloud, but I think he look for more of how to improve the long/close range combat fleet mix.

Bollocks.

The main battlegroup should engage the enemy while the carrier support fleet stays behind the lines, preferably at the edge of the gravity well, and supports the main battlegroup with strike craft.

I fail to see a problem.

There should be no incentives to put them in the front lines because they should not be in the front lines.

Why would anyone want to see it any different?

There may be problems with balance and effectiveness of strike craft, but if anything is "forcing you" to build an all-carrier or no-carrier fleet, it certainly doesn't have anything to do with where the carriers are deployed.

oh yeah, now I know why that game had bonuses for drones fighting near their hosts; it's because they don't last that long

this game, however, features strikecraft that can fight eternally. But this game PENALIZES carriers going in the frontlines by halving the fighter production. So, there absolutely NO reason to risk carriers near the main battle fleet.

Near their strikecraft.

But, no, we still ( I think; I don't play multiplayer ) risk our Capital Ship Carriers into the fray. Why? Because, the Vasari's can teleport its strikecraft. The TEC's can plonk missile batteries and the Advent's can increase the effectiveness of energy weapons.

If the carrier-cruiser are meant to stay away from everything, then fine.
