My ships won't attack

And neither do the enemys.

It's my first game, small system vs 1 AI. My ships and defenses were all doing their job defending while I built up and captured half a dozen planets. So with a decent fleet I go in big and attack a well defended enemy planet.

As soon as they arrive all ships are swarming everywhere, just like in a battle.

But nobody is shooting.

Radius set to gravity well - check. Auto attack - check. At war with ebemy - check

Manually targeting, I get a 'yes captain!' response, they move into position near the new target... and just sit there.

So I leave it an hour, still ships flying around everywhere, deploying special powers, laying missile platforms, etc. But not a shot has been fired, not a ship lost or damaged.

And now, when an enemy ship enters MY system, the defenses just sit there and let them by. All was fine til I made my first attack on the enemy planet, now my ships are neutered... :(

Please help - what the heck am I doing wrong?

That is extremely weird. Have you tried restarting?

Ok second game I played worked perfectly. I did have a mate around who plays Sins a lot, got him to have a look, he had no idea either, also expressed his puzzlement at the oddity of it all.

Anyway, fingers crossed I'm right now.

Yeah, this is odd. I had a slightly similar case (although I haven't tested it on 1.03, so I don't know if it's still doing it). When I had an alliance broken against me, my ships would freely engage the ships of my former ally turn enemy, after the time limit was up, but for some reason, I'd have to order my units to attack Logistical and Tactical structures personally. They wouldn't auto engage. I could understand, possibly, why Logistical structures could be ignored, but Tactical?

Weird. Must be a bug of some sort. Hopefully, in my case, I won't see it again, since I patched up. Or it might have only been because it was post game (so after I hit the "Keep Playing" button when the game officially ended). But still, it was wierd.

Solaron: I've had this as well, a few times now. When a former ally breaks the peace treaty with me, when I attack him I have to baby sit my fleets and have them manually target structures of any kind, but they'll quite happily attack his ships. Patching to 1.03 made no difference to me.

Um... theres supposed to be a 1-2 minute timer in which you can't attack at all.

I'm having the same issue of having to target structures manually in my current game also. It,s weird because this juest started. I play approximately 3 games a weekend and 3 or 4 during the week. Since upgrading to 1.03 I'm experiencing lots or weirdness. Is there a way to go back to 1.02 if you never had it installed? When you go to stardock it's not and option.

Thats definetly not it, unless you want to substitute the word "minute" for "hours", as was the case of my last game.

I'll try this out when I get home from work tonight and see if I can reproduce it. Seems odd, but there are a few auto-attack not working for certain structures things already, so who knows :P

I'm going to try replicating it again myself. As I said, I was using 1.02 when it happened, so it could've changed in 1.03. It might be an individual problem, since it doesn't seem that everyone with 1.03 is effected, strangely enough, unless they are just being silent or having noticed yet.

Ron Lugge, I specifically mentioned "After the time limit" so obviously this problem carried on after the 2 minute hold.

Starrider, hey :p Nice Avatar. I'm using the rampant manticore for my ingame icon, and I would've used that as my avatar here if I couldn't get my pic uploaded, but as you see, I got my avatar up after all. But that's still an awesome symbol of power. Being an Honor Harrington fan, with the story centered around the Star Kingdom of Manticore probably has something to do with that :p Course, my avatar is from David Weber's series as well.

A little off topic, but I'm seeing all kinds of MOO 3 former forum members here.. Ron, Sorceress...

Return to topic:

I know there is a bug where ships won't automatically attack platforms..but they should automatically attack the other fleet.

i've had this happen before too..

I sent the save game at the point and replay to [email protected] but haven't gotten a response or anything.

Oh and it was in 1.02 though. Hasn't happened in 1.03 but i've hardly played 1.03.

I also have problems with ships just sitting there...

There could be several hangers and defense platforms but my ships just sit and let themselves be killed.

I've had it happen twice, both 1.03. In the first game, my ally broke our treaty well before we finished off the only other AI player. There was no problem attacking this third player, but when I tried to attack my former ally, the above mentioned problem occured - my ships would not attack his structures, but would spare no effort to cross the gravity well to wipe out any of his scouts that meandered past.

The second game, the AI remained my ally till we won the game, but instead of quitting I decided to play on, resulting with the AI immediatly breaking the alliance, and again the same problem. Makes fighting on multiple fronts a nightmare!

So it's a definite Ally Bug. With all this research, the conclusion is this: with 1.02 and still with 1.03, if an ally breaks an alliance and goes to war with you, the bug will prevent your units from engaging planet structures.

Of course, I wonder... Does the same thing happen if the player breaks an alliance with an AI ally? Definately another thing to consider. If it's the same, well, at least it'll give you time to prepare to open up on former allies, instead of having to conduct a last 2 minute shift of resources. If it's normal (you can engage all enemy aspects like normal, including structures), then it becomes necessary to preempt any treaty breaks on an unlocked team game (don't wait till the friendship gauge drops below 25%, which leads to the cease fire breaking, and war starting) in order to conduct a fair war.

Of course, this is only a concern until this bug gets patched. And it does need patching.

Update, Still rooted.

I've played 4 games. Twice I played through to a win, twice, when I was owning about 80% of the planets, moving in one the remaining ones, one by one, suddenly it happens.

My ships won't attack ships or structures.

My hanger ships and defense guns will not open up.

I cannot manually target.

At no stage in the games did I ever enter an alliance - 100% at war the whole game.

Nor does it tie in with anything happening. Not a research breakthrough, not a change to ships attack stance, nothing. Out of the blue the ships just stop attacking.

And, the enemy do not attack me either.

All ships DO, however, buzz around just like they were attacking. They deploy special antimatter bonuses, but none fire. ie. TEC ships will lay missile platforms, but no missiles fire.

Most frustrating.

Another update. Just spent from 9AM until 9PM playing a game (yes, with the slow patch, on a huge world, taking it easy).

Happened again.

That makes 3 out of 5 games that have done this. This is killing me. Sins is the game I've always dreamt of and waited for. This is a mega killer.

So. I've emailed [email protected]

I hope the good people there can identify this problem and assist this desperately hopeful customer.

Email sent:

............................

Please help, this is the game I've waited for my whole life, and it won't play and it's killing me.

I get about 4-6 hours into a game, and all of a sudden combat stops.

My ships will not shoot enemies.
Enemies will not shoot me.
Base defenses will not fire.

Capital ships all use their antimatter specials, but will not attack. ie I can lay missile platforms but they will not fire.

ALL THE WHILE ALL SHIPS (mine and enemy) BUZZ AROUND LIKE THEY ARE IN COMBAT.

However, none of them shoot.

In other words, all ships act like they are in combat, but none shoot.

I can manually target enemy ships and structures, I get a red line and a voice confirmation, and my ships zoom in like they're attacking, but all they do is fly around without shooting. Me and the enemy.

This only seems to happen after I have set aside a full weekend to play Sins. I spend a careful forever building up and preparing, attacking and defending, then in a blink I can't play anymore. To say this is maddening is an understatement.

I am running Vista SP1, Nvidia 8800GTX latest drivers. Game ver 1.3

I have played 2 games through to the end without this bug, bug 3 games with it.

So it's happening about half the time.

Please, I wouldn't care about a lesser game, but I need this to work.

Save game attached. Note how forces in the center sun will not attack.

Please, help me get the game to a point where I don't invest 10 hours building up for a massive assault to see it all fuck up because my ships suddenly decide they won't attack.

Thanks!

It sounds like there could be some sort of strange...sync problem with your machine. That's the only thing I can think of.

You may be somehow getting out of sync with the game. I know it sounds like something I just pulled out of my ass, but it seems like you're the only person experiencing this problem so much.

Just curious...what's your processor (brand, quad/dual, and clock speed), your video card, and how much RAM do you have?

Have you tried reinstalling the game?
