There aren't enough topics/threads about a campaign etc.??

Sheesh, what did he do -- run around looking for every repetitive, overdone, whiny argument thats completely without merit? (Well, the campaign one has little merit to it... but if he just looked without regard to merit, how'd he miss the "diplomacy" issue?)

You overlook the fact that you can mod damn near everything in the game. I thought a few of the things you did as well when i first looked this over and now im trying to change it so that some of the things you pointed out are gone.
Such things like making each faction unique to its own.
Using the map editor on this site you can FULLY edit maps as well as create your own campaign scenarios if you wanted.
As for few ship types, people are already well on their way to making new models and even new races.
Stardock may not have given us the best game but i couldnt have asked for a better sandbox.
There i just refuted all your statements, what are you going to whine about now?

Galaxy forge is not stupid, it works. If you have any problems with it say them in more detail.

I think the original poster had valid point - Game should come complete when it's launched - this one obivious was not. You can't give somebody a hamburger and then ask them to cook the meat when they get home. That isent to say that this isent a good game. But without a Campaign componet or a decent story to follow, one loses interest rather quickly. Every game plays the same, I just can't get attached to my faction like I did playing MOO (original MOO not the recent CRAP) or GalCiv, Granted they did away with the annoying culture, and rock paper scisor concept of shields...
sorry rambling now...

Anyhow No Campaign Story or Diplomacy = No attachment
No Attachment = Less Replay Value
Less Replay Value = 2 weeks TOPS before going back to GalCiv, Civ, Total War.

I kinda know how you feel. I wish there was a way to slightly tweak your faction, like in GacCivII. You could go into a game with a faction slightly better with economy, or military, espionage or whatever. Of course I'm talking about each faction within each race.

I don't even call the other AI players by there names, usually I think of them like "yellow looks strong but maybe I should take out blue first".

Possibly a more accurate analogy would be to complain that your hamburger failed to solve world hunger.
Ironclad is a small company. Larger companies could probably just pull 20 people off the main work towards the end of the project and tell them to make a campaign and suffer no release delay or signifcant loss of quality, but Ironclad can't. The choice was either to lose a month or two of balancing and general polish for a basic campaign, or drop the campaign and keep all that polish. Admittedly, there is also the third choice of delaying the release for a campaign, but I'm under the impression Ironclad had chosen their release date carefully and didn't want to miss it by months.

General game polish versus a mildly superflous "necessity". I don't think the choice was hard to make.

I certainly don't agree with you when you say that there is no attachment to your faction because of the lack of a campaign. Personally, I have more fun designing private histories on-the-run for my faction than I ever would playing a regular campaign.

Considering how active and generally willing to listen to constructive criticism Ironclad and Co have been, your post must have been rehashing subjects that have been done to death or failed to give constructive criticism.

I'm sure papa murphy's pizza will be shocked to hear that -- better prices on their pizza because its not cooked :D

Don't forget, this game costs 10$ less than "normal", unless you got the collectors edition straight from SD!

Don't get the wrong impression bro, I'm not saying the game sucks etc.. if I thought it sucked, I wouldn't even be bothering to post anything here, I'll just put it in the blender with rest of my deep fried twinky and mix it with some korean food and call it a day.

Said that I understand your point on budget, release date, the alightment of the moon, and keep the marketing people happy and having enough money at the end of the day to have yourself a hamburger. My point is as a consumer that is meaningless to me. All I'm pointing out is that it's not complete and if they spent more time on it, it would have been a better game. I guess I can use Starcraft as a example of a great game with awsome story.

Sorry rambling again, look I understand your point

IronClad = Small Company = Less budget = Gota make hard choices = Hamburger with uncook meat.

Still a great game and I'm glad I spent my 40 bucks at EB, and I look forward to getting my ass handed to me online, but you gota understand that a decent percentage dosent care to play online and would like hours of enjoyment playing solo, or a Campaing that sucks them in like a decent book.

I think all really really really good game has a story. Halo anybody?
