Lag upon unit/planet selection

I'm having a rather annoying problem. Everytime I click on a unit or on a planet, the game will lag uncontrollably. I can't click on anything and the only way to fix it is to wait a long time and unselect it. When I don't have anything selected, I can run the game perfectly at 30 FPS, and I can rotate the camera and things. This also happens when I go to the player setup menu to change my name and such. If anyone knows how to fix this, please tell me or I just wasted my money on this game. :'(

Similiar thing happens for me too!

!!! But only when I run the game in window mode !!!

Opening Menu slows down from 80 fps to 1-4 fps. Selecting units sometimes drop fps too.

System: ATI X1950 Pro / Latest Drivers (8-3_xp32_dd_59746) / Dual Core Pentium / 3GB

Sounds like it's all the various texture loading and such bogging down the game for you, Shadow, if it's only in the beginning and works fine after.

I has nothing to do with texture (pre-)loading for me...

I just checked and get a ~20 fps hit also in full screen mode. Just not that the rate drops to near zero. I have everything on highest setting. But it does not make a difference to run with the defaults in windows mode it still gets slowed so much that you can not efficently use the menu.

I have the same problem; but it only happened after I installed SP1 for vista and 1.03. I have the latest drivers for everything (ATI X1700, Core2Duo, 2GB RAM) and run in windowed mode at 1280x800 with settings at highest (except AA which is low as I cannot see a difference; just my opinion) The lag only hits about half way through a game when I have a couple of battles going on between the AI and myself (1 vs 1) and we both have a massive fleets engaged on two plants. I have to usually save the game (after waiting 5 minutes to click all the buttons) and then exit wait another 5 minutes and then reload the game. I have monitored my RAM and CPU usage to see if they are bottlenecking and it looks as if they are fine. In game they run at about 80% for CPU and 85% RAM use. I usually switch off all background apps as well i.e. make sure that windows messenger has shutdown etc. But that has not helped; and I have installed the virtual space fix that was mentioned in another thread. No idea what is causing this!

Still think it is a great game; just this is a little frustrating. Still not stopping me from playing ;)

Thats just not "the same problem" and may be related to overheating your system...

"Our" problem is there from the start, can be easily reproduced (on our systems at least) and may have to do with a graphical element which is shown on some occations (esp. in menu, popup... maybe related to fonts or some button image rendering?)

I don't think it is overheating but I will have to check; thanks for giving me a lead at least

Have you sent a dxdiag to Ironclad support?

Right I just played through another game and measured my core temps while doing so and it did not seem to be overheating; but I did get the stuttering mid game. Core temps are 36 at idle and then mid game go to 58 at the highest.

I might just do a complete re install and see if that fixes it
