When will the price drop?

$40 or so is a bit much for a video game, especially since they drop in price over time.  So when is that expected to happen with Sins?

Sins is modestly priced. Most other high-end PC games go for $49.99. I wouldn't expect the price to drop any time soon, but you might get a slightly better price if you shop around. Some retailers have featured sales.

Right now most stores are having problems keeping Sins stocked on the shelves (i've seen "2" hard copies of sins since release), most stores will not see a need to lower the prices yet.

Once you see Sins consistently stocked start watching for any drop in price. I have not look at any sort of price trend in games so i do not know when the prices will actually begin to drop.

Some people don't see video games as being worth the price tag, even if it's $40.

It doesn't matter if the average price is higher, it's still not worth that much to to them.

You wouldn't think someone only moderately interested in video games would post in the forum of a game this intensive.....

Ahh makes sence to me now. :)

Edit: Seems like the type that would downlaod it off a torrent

Galciv 2 gold edition has been out for almost a year now. And the price at my local EB games has not been dropping, soooo don't expect Sins to be dropping anytime soon.

The fact he asked shows to me he is going to be active in looking for a price drop and actually buying the game rather then pirate and forget.

Considering the slop that alot of companies put out nowadays (bug-ridden, rushed out, unfinished, poor development - the list is practically never-ending), I can't say I blame people for not wanting to spend $40 on what would normally amount to 10 - 20 hours of sub-par entertainment/suffering. The problem is, Sins doesn't fit into this previous category. This game is a nerdgasm of gaming goodness, a delectable treat that I imagine many of us will be able to pick up years from now and still enjoy. You can't put a price on that. I consider myself fortunate that I found out about this game and can partake of its glorious complexities.

Demand is too high right now, that wouldn't make sense. Some stores have increased the price from the suggested retail price.

Wow that's lame..
I hate stores that do that.

It's a games store, not a car dealership.

But uh yeah, probably not until expansion comes out. :) Then maybe people could get orig+expansion for $40, eh?
Doesn't make sense to price drop the top selling game so early.

Simple answer. Get a job or don't eat lunch for a day to make up the extra 10 bucks =P

Long as you see the game in the top 10 PC sellers you won't see it drop. Considering WOW is still up there says alot + expansions. Its been awhile since a game or 2 broke past them.

Give it six months. Demand is sky high right now because there's no major RTS release competing with this game. Once some major releases come down the pipe it'll settle down and you'll be able to find it cheaper.

Oh, and don't buy a used copy. Stardock's registration system renders used copies unable to get content updates, or I'd just sell you mine.

Newegg is still selling at $36.99 with free ship:

Newegg Deal

I'd say keep an eye out for the next month or so at Gogamer.com. They tend to drop the price of games $10-$20 a few months after release for a limited time. I suspect it won't go any lower than $10 less from them.

I just don't see the point in buying any game or console at the release price when it will go down eventually. I'm pretty confident that Sins won't go the way of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire.

I just posted this. It will be $29.99, starting tomorrow, for the rest of the week, at Best Buy.

I see it at newegg.com which is a trusted retailer, for $36, Amazon had it with w day shipping for $39, and Walmart had it in the store for $39. I got it at Walmart.

If you are a student or pupil 40$ can be much money. So if you wait till you can afford it, it's quite normal i would say. But what considerable reason should a dev have to pre-announce a price drop? To catch the car dealer example from above. Would a dealer tell you to come back next week because the desired car will be less expansive then??

For me its simple. One refill for my car costs about 100$(45l) and lasts for 750 km. So to be financially even, i only have to drive 330km by bike instead of using the car and its even healthier :D

I'm just not going to go to work and save that gas money for games.

I'm surprised by the OP. This game was recently released, and the DEVs suggested a retail price significantly below the average price for a game. I was shocked when I found out the game was only $40.00, as I am used to spending $50.00+ for a computer game, and $60.00+ for a console game - not to mention that these games always seem to dissapoint. I'm a student, and I work, I know what it's like to have to micro-manage your money. If you're not willing to spend $40.00 on a well-made computer game, then I believe you are insulting the people who put an incredible amount of effort to bring you a well-made game at a decent price. I wouldn't expect to see the price come down much at least beyond the next 2-3 months, and rightly so. Most game prices drop to $40.00 or so after that time period if you're lucky. We should be thankful for developers who choose NOT to overprice a game that has been so well made, as the trend to release overpriced, buggy, unfinished games seems so popular now-a-days. If you aren't willing spend $40.00 for a new video game then I believe you are asking too much.

When you purchase a game, you're not only being granted with the ability to play the game (and in Sins case the ability to play using ICO) but also getting post-release support that comes with it (hopefully).

Considering that we'll be getting almost the 4th patch soon so soon after release indicates that Sins is very good value for money compared to some other titles. ;)

Who's getting more of the money from each sale: the people who worked on it or the suits?

The way I look at it, $40 is pretty cheap. $40 for something that would likely give at least 20 hours of entertainment. Compare that to going to an amusement park, $20 for 3-5 hours of fun. Go bowling, that's around what, $20 for 2 hours these days? Relatively speaking, games are pretty inexpensive.

Well, if I'm remembering my business class correctly, there are about three phases any product goes through, and Sins is in the first one. The market hasn't saturated yet, and after that it'll go through a period where it's still popular. After that, the market loses interest and sales decline. So it's going to be a while.

That being said, just save up some money. $40 isn't that much, and you should be able to create that much quickly. Do some odd jobs for people, or put aside a bit of every paycheck. It'll add up quickly enough, if you resist the temptation to spend it.

I highly recommend using a budget. I've found that ever since I've started keeping track of every penny I spend and receive, I've been more confident because I know when I can afford stuff, and I can plan to buy stuff in the future.

Why is it that people assume that I can't manage money? If I wasn't a good budgeter I'd probably buy Sins without hesitation.
