Single Player Achievements??

I was just curious since no one has really talked about them much on the forums.

I am close to 80% done.  (About 30% of them I got in 2 different games on purpose)

Anyone figure out what "Space Ponies" are??

I haven't been able to do the hositle/military only research ones.  Culture seems to take start a serious problem.

One of the achievements I just did which was a pain in the ass was the no capital ships.

I am about to attempt the capital ships only , this should be interesting =D

I did the cap ship only one with relative ease actually. I had 10 Vulkaros Desolators and just ran in to drop the seige platforms on the planet and then used the missile batteries to pummel the defending ships.

Space Ponies are an in joke, and you'll randomly find them by exploring your planets. There have been plenty of posts on the forums about it.

I must have colonized over a thousand planets by now across all games, I've never seen space ponies. Still have that lone achievement sitting there, keeping me from 100%. AFAIK they don't actually exist...

yeah I too was wandering what the Spacies ponies was.

Hehe.. no, they certainly exist. I 'found' them in my second or third game, it's just luck of the draw I think.

I was getting up to 90% wondering how on earth I was ever going to get space ponies, and then I looked after one game and I had mysteriously ended up getting them. Now I just need a couple of the easy but time consuming Achievements (like kill xxx trade ships)

Yeah me too, one of the first games I played. I had no idea what was going on!

I've accidently discovered Space Ponies! once and then actually noticed it happen once too. :omg: It doesn't give your planet any bonus though...too bad.

Quick question: For the achievement where you are only allowed to build capital ships, are you not allowed to build scouts?  How do you scout then?  Does Quick Start ruin your chances of this achievement because you start with two scouts?

Just figured I ask before learning the hard way, thanks. -_-

I believe the Go Big or Go Home achievement (capitals only) bars you from building any frigates and/or cruisers (which means no scouts unless you're already given them to begin with). I've completed this achievement as Advent even after I ended up Dominating about 20 Pirate Corsairs (plus, the Revelation's Clairvoyance can substitute for a scout).

@ Sp3ktr3 | You don't just colonize them silly! You have to explore every planet you come by untill you find it! Advent are good for this because they have a research that makes exploring cheaper :)

No, you can't start with scouts either or you automatically aren't able! (even though you didn't build them). So you CAN NOT quick start, you must start with no ships. ALso a bummer you're not allwoed to trade with trade ships because they are actually counted as frigates (see post-game if you don't believe me).

You also need to 'explore' the planets (for artifacts & planet bonuses).  I'm sure u knew that.

I've heard that the best odds are, at finding them on the Pirate Base, after capturing & colonizing it.

Congrats for almost getting 100%, from someone who has.

Any advice for the Military- and Civilian-exclusive research achievements?  I feel like I would have to create a custom map to achieve these, because without military research, you are stuck with Capital ships and light frigates, and without civilian research you can't colonize volcanic and ice planets.

Military only shouldn't be to hard (thats the way lots of MP games are)!  Just skip the volcano & ices, and rush your neighbor on a small map (the smaller the better).

Its been a long time ago, but I think I completed the Civilian only in conjunction with the Go Big (Cap ship only) requirement.  With time you can get ahead of the AI by designing better trade chains.  Or you could rush the AI on an extremely small map like Point Blank.

Earlier I should have mentioned, that one can save money (cheat) when searching for Artifacts (Planet Bonuses/Space Ponies) by:  Save, Surrender, Keep Playing.... perview all of the Artifact locations, then reLoad.

I have problem with Family planning.  I can play a huge map, but AI would surrender before I get to 6000 population.

Space Ponies are on the large map with 2 star systems, the description has the star's name as Xi.

You can choose the best map to make a given achievement.  It can help, I guess.

I found the caps only to easier than the no caps.  I built an egg and went exploring for asteroids.  Then a carrier for some strike craft against the lrms.  Then an antorak because I needed something fast to scoot around my back country to clean harrassing fleets.  Then a desolator to attack planets, and by the time I needed a second carrier was about over.

The frigate only one I also decided to build only scouts, siege ships, and one colony ship.  50 navigators can exterminate a lvl 1 cap ship in short order.  100 can take it and its small escort.  I was surprised.

Space Ponies are on the "Gateway" map (haven't made a second runthrough though)

@unknownx - Did you try researching the pop. cap upgrades? All races have them (I'm sure you know that).

@demmalition1 - No, it's not on Gateway every time. It spwans randomly. That's just the map you played on when it spawned for you.

Lol, it has a helmet.

Yes but even maxxed terran planet supposrt slightly over 300 populations with all upgrades.  That means you need around 20 to break 6000.

Probably the best faction to do Family Planning is the TEC, since they get these population increases with research:
Terran +30%
Desert +15%
Ice +15%

These planet types are also the top three planets in terms of maximum supported population.

I completed an overwhelming majority of my achievements pre-1.1. It's lots easier to do the Fear of Icebergs achievement now that carriers are the new must-have unit and don't have to be replaced as often as other frigate types.

Probably one of the more difficult ones to do is kill 1000 frigates (and even harder is 1000 Pirates).

Yup, large custom maps from Galaxy Forge are the way to go for these.  You can place dozens of pirate bases.

I have problem with Galaxy Forge.  Can someone make maps with whole bunch Terren, Desert, Ice, pirates maps?  Hehe.

Absolutely.  You can build fully customized maps from scratch.

What's the problem with Galaxy Forge?  Will it not run, or are you haveing trouble using it?
