---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, bear in mind, this isn't the end-all be all update. The goal is to get something out, possibly this week and then do more later.

For single player games, the main change is in the computer AI not being quite so nasty at easy levels but being tougher at harder levels.

Most of the rest will affect multiplayer where unit balance between the 3 races is more sensitive.

We're looking at next week for release. This week we looked at feedback and did a lot of, ahem, play testing.

I'm glad this patch is being forged based on the experience and opinions of people who've actually played the thing rather than a bunch of kneejerk reaction posts from forum whiners.

If I understood correctly you where going to release a content patch too? Pretty please look at the "Sins Plus" mod by Uzii for inspiration then ^^, much cooler with alot of planet types and planets "plusses". :D

In reference to the upcoming 1.04 update.

Frogboy (Stardock) :

-AI is likely to gang up on the leading player in Easy or Normal.
End of quote

Blair Fraser (Ironclad) :

However, 1.04 will introduce the idea that on easy and normal difficulties the AI will be less likely to team up against the dominate player
End of quote

This evident contradiction still has not been cleared.

Does the 1.04 Preview (this thread's OP) contain a typo ?

(See reply #167 for the full reference of Blair Fraser's quote.)

no reason to worry about the changes lol. if you want the patch, then patch. otherwise backup your saved files and overwrite if you do it to be selective ;p

also, what the above poster said had me wondering too who's got the wrong info.

You probably want to go to the mod or multiplayer forum and set up a thread looking for people interested in gaming with your mod of choice and set up a time to play. Even if there WERE a way to auto-match you with random people using your mod, you would be in for a very long wait to actually find enough people with your
particular mod version.
End of quote

This never works especially with such low pop games as Soase. Modded MP only works when there is automatch system (example JK2/JKA) -if one mods becomes popular and it gets the critical threshold of people using then it is actually possbile to have modded MP game. No auto mod version match - no working modded MP .

I agree the changes are pretty bad, mostly senseless. However, larger ships should be more efficient, especially when it comes to siege stuff. I mean, if you waste a capital ship on planetbusting it should be more effective than some lame frigates for the same money. That is just economy of scale. I can't imagine wasting a cap ship slot ont hat, though. The ease that planets go down to siege frigates is a problem, though, especially in single player where it's just a huge annoyance to have your defenses be incredibly useless. They should just be taken out completely or repurposed, though. Why would a FRIGATE be the planetbusters? It's completely retarded. There doesn't need to be any specific planet buster ship, just make the heavier ships the only ones that can attack a planet.

On this Monday, at noon, the possible (major) typo in the 1.04 Preview still is there :

Will the A.I. gang-up more on the leading player, at easy & normal,
or will it gang-up less ?

(See post #178 to observe the obvious contradiction, on that, between Stardock & Ironclad.)

I suspect Brad meant to say that they're going to fix the fact that the AI is likely to gang up on the leading player on easy and normal, but as it stands his comment is confusing.

Perhaps that is what he meant ... but what he has effectively written is very clear :

« AI is likely to gang up on the leading player in Easy or Normal. »

And this represents a flagrant contradiction with a recent post by Blair Fraser :

« However, 1.04 will introduce the idea that on easy and normal difficulties the AI will be less likely to team up against the dominate player »

I suspect that they (= people at Ironclad & Stardock) are too busy playtesting 1.04 to check the forums and clarify this point. I haven't seen a post from a Frogboy or a Fraser all weekend.

If I had to guess (and it's only a guess), it sounds like what Brad wrote is a checklist item. I.e. something that happens in the current build that needs to be rectified.

I'd go with what Blair says. After all, they're the developers, not Stardock.

When will we be able to choose a starting position in a multiplayer game? , been waiting for that change since 1.0 :-(

I'm just waiting for this patch to be released! I'm anxious to try out new Advent Illuminator strategies. :)

However, for future patches, i'm not nearly as interested in tweaking ship stats as i am in adding more 4X elements to the game. For all of the hysteria the subsequent patches have produced here, for those of us who only play against AI, i don't think it's been such a big deal as we don't have to contend with "spam rushes" of any kind from the AI.

I just want the diplomacy fixed (no irritating missions!) and more cool stuff added to an already fun game.
I am still seeing the AI to flee at times with the latest patch. Even when defending its home planet.

They already stated 1.04 would be a "bugfix/hotfix/patch" release not a major content increase. Wait for 1.1.

cool!

Sounds good! Thanks for your dedication to your players and game!

No, I think the supply value is fine. They were too expensive though. You have to increase your upkeep to build a lot of them. In essence, you have to sacrifice some of your economy for the ability to put someone else's on the fritz.

Can someone pin this thread to the top of the general category or maybe the developer journal category.

It's not easy to find out the current status on things with the game when threads like this are mixed in with everything else.

Disappointed that we won't see a patch before the weekend...

One thing that might help is you have a button called "My Replies". Now that you have replied to this topic you should be able to easily find it on your list.

I agree though, we're all excited and can't wait for the patch to be released. So, I know why you would want it to be pinned to the top.

Umm... how is it that a capital ship moves faster than a light frigate? o.O
