Question about the MapMaker...(Galaxy Forge)

I understand the basics of it.  What I don't understand how to do is, how do you put in resource asteroids, i can't find a option for that, you know like metal asteroids and the such?

Those aren't placed in Galaxy Forge - they are properties of the planets themselves, so when you put down a planet it'll assign the appropriate number of resource asteroids based on the planet's .entity file in GameInfo.

What about some sections in some maps where there is just asteroids to in habit, same concept?

Is it possible to do test battles. Say you want to pit 70 LRMs up against 40 Illuminators. Is this possible with Galaxy Forge?

Not exactly sure what you mean.. some maps are made with some randomness, some aren't. Are you talking about the neutral extractors to capture? If so, those are also created by the game itself, not the map file.

Nope, it's just a map layout tool. You could do that if you really wanted by changing galaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef file to include however many ships for the players to start with, and just make a 2-3 planet map to go with. No build time, no travel time.

I mean when you go to a planet on the map sometimes it's not even a planet, but just an asteroid with Crystal, and Metal asteroids around it, is that radnomly generated when you make an asteroid for a planet?

To keep this simple so it's easier to follow along: Open GalForge and start a new map. One of the two planets will be highlighted. Look to the tool box, the part on the left. Go to the bottom, you'll see a line that says properties, and the words "TerranHome" will be in the white box. Click on either that or the box that says "Type" and a small arrow will appear on the line. Click the arrow and a list will pop down. If you look near the bottom of this list you will see 4 asteroid possibilities. The first is a colonizable asteroid, the second is, well "dead"... the third and fourth are the bands of asteroids and junk that are not colonizable, but are likely to have the capturable resource extractor in their midst in the game. You can place these directly, or you can move up the properties list and allow the game to make them randomly with the other commands. An example of that is the "asteroid or dead" property, which will give you either an asteroid that is colonizable or... well, "dead". If you make a new planet, it will say Terran in the box, and you can change it the same way.

Hopefully a help to your question...

Not to hijack the thread but...

Actually this is possible to do with Galaxy Forge. I have a map set up for me to test combat in my mod. All you need to do is create a very simple map, literaly two planets linked together)

Then Right click the first planet --> edit,

select the "Current planet" tree in the left hand column

click New Group (button in left hand corner), select the new group (by default it will be "Group:Always"),

in the middle column change the "Create these items for:" list to NewPlayer0

Use the "Add to group" button to add items from the right hand list to the group. In this case you would add 70 Tech:Frigate:LongRange

And then repeat for the second planet, except setting "Create these items for:" to NewPlayer1 and adding 40 Psi:Frigate:LongRange

Save the map.

Now when you start the map up you will have two ready made fleets ready to murder each other (once you have jumped one fleet to the other atleast)
