Scouts

I just started playing this game. I like it so far, but in my opinion that scouts should not be given the same level of attention as an enemy fleet. I am in the middle of a battle and receive word that allies are joining the fight. No, actually they are not. They just warped to one of my quiet systems where an enemy scout is passing through. Next I have my fleet repairing after the battle. But then my entire fleet leaves the repair station to chase down 1 enemy scout. I like the idea of scouting enemy systems, but with the AI constantly spamming all my systems with scouts this feature needs to be slightly modified. Perhaps have the warnings/ship AI ignore scouts? Maybe make scouts unarmed and thus harmless? Just some thoughts...

Not nesesarily harmless, it could be filled with Nirtolitic warheads and be heading toward you fleet...

It is possible to turn the auto-attack option of your fleet to false. That way, they won't attack the enemies scouts. This helps in two ways: You can leave your fleet at the repair station(s), and you won't lose any hard-won reputation with that AI player if you destroy the scout.

Also, research PSIDAR (or its non-TEC equivalent), to know when an enemy fleet is approaching your planets. That way, if its just a scout, you can always turn off auto attack. If its a large enemy fleet, just turn it back on.

Yes I ended up turing auto-attack off. But it is still my opinion that this is not an effective use of my time/attention:
1. Get alarm enemy fleet is approaching
2. Check fleet to see if it is a scout
3. Turn auto-attack on my fleet off so it ignores the scout
4. Wait for scout to leave
5. Turn auto-attack back on

As opposed to this:
1. Check "Ignore scouts" option at the start of the game.

yes scouts need their own announcement. Like scouts have found colonizable planet is good. Yes u can use scouts for battle in certain circumstances, but overall the announcements get in the way.

you could always make the ships only attack locally and not all objects in the gravity well.
check the fleet options.

killing scouts does not harm a.i reputation from what the patch notes claim.

i agree tough... scouts are annoyingshould they should implent an option in movement orders "Ignore scouts - Chase scouts"

even had this trouble when in a big fight with alot of my bombers and fighters swirling around somehow 90% of the fighters + bombers all went to the other side of the map to track and destroy a scout that was charging up its phase jump

can be "catastrophic" in equally sized fleets

Scouts secretly destroy braincells as long as they exist around one of your planets.

However, more complex rules of engagement would alway come in handy, even at the expense of braincells. I never really paid much attention to this though.

@Archpisi: I did not realise that destroying scouts did not harm reputation anymore. Thanks for the info (must have missed it)
