Who wants to assimilate me?

Should I buy sins?

Hi! I've just played the demo of Sins reacently and I must say, I really enjoyed it. I've been looking for a cool scifi 'civilization-esque' game (I tried GalCivs II, but it didn't float my boat) and I'm seriously considering buying sins, however I have a few questions about the game first.

1. Are there more ships/buildings/upgrades in the full game. In the demo there were only about 15 ships and 3 ship types (frigate, cruiser, capital), are there more ships and goodies in the full game or is this it?

2. The AI have this habbit of spaming missions that are imposible to complete (Ie. Kill 10 ships of the civ your allied with...), is the feature togglable in the full game?

3. How long can games last for? (Is this like SW:Empire at war where your average game last an hour or two, or is this closer to the Civ series with big maps lasting for days)

4. Are there any other elements to the game (besides multiplayer) that aren't in the demo that I'm un aware of?

Thanks to any one who can tell me more about this game, I'm really intrigued.

BTW. Sorry if some of these things have been already asnwered on the forum but my searches keep returning a 404 and telling me that gremlins have stollen the page I was looking for. :D

1. No, I believe the ships in the demo are the whole TEC roster. There should be 6 frigates, 4 cruisers, and 5 cap ships per faction. Everybody has the same types of frigates (with different artwork), 3 of the same cruiser types (and one that's unique to their faction) while the cap ships are all race-specific.

2. You can turn off the diplomacy system by locking teams at the beginning of the game. This will result in everyone being hostile to everyone else for the whole game. There's been a lot of discussion of the diplomacy system, but the current word from the devs is that it will not be changed until a future expansion.

3. There's no time limit, and the only map size limit is what your PC can handle. I've personally had games last as much as 7 hours. Usually they last more like 3-5 on medium maps.

4. Two other factions with shuffled tech trees (many of the techs are the same, but are available at different levels), different ship artwork (and a couple of new ship types, as listed in (1) above), and a couple of unique buildings. Oh, and I don't think the random map generator was in the demo, its the best tool of its kind I've ever seen. If you enjoy playing the game, you'll have no shortage of maps to play it on.

Hope that helps.

You should also have a look at the "I'm on the fence" thread for further discussion on this subject:

I of course heartily recommend my pros/cons post on the second page.

I have to agree with Vinrath. they way you describe it Fuzzy sounds like the full version. I havn't downloaded the demo but it sounds the same.

I have had games last for over 10 hours easy (on the huge maps) but they average out to around 7 or so. If your more the type for a quick get-in-get-out type of match they have those too but it is more concerned around the larger games.Sadly there is no campain mode for it but the multiplayer and bot-matches more than make up for it.

Also you have to be ready to commit a large part of your life to this game because it is time-consuming.

I would definitly suggest it and cant wait to play you

ps. i dont know whats going on with the servers but it is annoying.

That is why I would like to have a timer option for multiplayer games, because I would like to play on the super large maps. I've only been playing small 1v1 maps just because of time restraints.

How many people actually get a WIN on their record by playing on a large map? Very few....very very few.

The demo is missing 2/3 of the ships in the game and each race has a unique variant each ship role type, it isn't a simple art swap.

Like mentionned above, if you lock the teams you won't get any missions. However, the AI never issues impossible missions. In this particular case, the AI doesn't care if you are allied with someone or not. He wants you to harm that other player because that is in his best interest, not yours. The AI wants to play you off other players for his own advantage. It is possible to do because you can revoke your cease fire agreement with your ally and in some cases that may be the better option, particularly if you ally is weak and the AI asking you to attack him is more powerful.

If I somehow inadvertently gave the impression that it was a simple art swap, rather than a case of many of the ships filling the same role in each case, I sincerely apologize. That was not my intention. If I could edit the original post for clarity I would do so, but the forum software does not allow. You're just going to have to trust that when I said "type" I mean "type" as in carrier, long range weaponry, siege, etc.

I likewise apologize to Vinraith and anyone who read my inaccurate initial response to this comment during the few minutes it was up. I misread the post and reacted too quickly.

I actually see what you were reacting to now more clearly, I said "No, I believe the ships in the demo are the whole roster" when I meant it was the whole TEC roster. That was my bad, and if it gave a false impression about the game it genuinely wasn't intentional. Are you able to edit responses, because that actually should be fixed.

Done and thanks.
