Mod doesn't work

I downloaded the forge tools and used the refernce data to make a mod. The mod is simple: change the stats of capitalships so you could build them as if they were frigates. I changed the power of the weapons so that they were weaker. I changed the capitlalship cap research too. I put all the files I changed into a folder and moved the folder to the mods folder. It showed up with other mods on the option screen and I clicked enable mod. When I started a game, nothing I changed was changed.

You need all the GameInfo files in your mod folder, not just the ones you changed.

Try that, see if it works

did you use the version 1.02 mod tool stuff or 1.03?

*Clears throat* You didn't answer Annatar's question.

Best thing I can suggest, and to any new modder, is to change one thing, load and test. If successful; add another. If it fails; tweak and adjust and/or ask on the forum. You have changed a lot, and to just 'hope' it will work first time was very naive of you.

I have done the Capital ship -> Frigate conversion you speak of, and had no problems. I use 'Compare It!' which is a free file comparer and merger, I strongly recommend that. Then you can see exactly what is different in the 2 file types.

I think I was missing a file. I re-downloaded the forge tools and used the reference data to make a small mod that added more squadrons to the carriers. It worked. a couple minutes ago I finished the mod I originally tried creating. It also works.
