Allies weird behavior

So I got really frustrated this morning playing a 4vs4 match on a medium map.

I had locked teams option set, and 3 computer players and I were all team 1, the 4 other computer players were all team 2.

From the beginning it became apparent that the AI is useless in helping out.  If allies were in one of my planets and the planet and my forces were being attacked, my computer ally would do nothing....he didnt leave the sector he just sat there doing nothing.  If one of my allies planets were being attacked,  it would always ask for help, but never send any of his own forces to combine with the ones I sent.  Quite a few times while one of my allies planets were being attacked he sent a massive force to the planet, so I thought all was well, untill he went straight through the planet and on to another that he started to assault,  completely forgetting about the one he was just in that was getting owned.

The last straw however, which made me stop playing in a bit to vent in this post, was when I heard that one of my allies bases were being attacked, and I looked at the base only seeing blue colored ships, so I thought it must of just been one enemy that was killed before I had a chance to look.  Well a couple minutes go by and another announcement is made saying my ally has lost a planet.  I took a closer  look and realized my allies are fighting each other.........wtf.  What is the point of having locked teams if they end up fighting each other anyways, and don't seem to help each other out whatsoever.

I would really like to see a feature added where you can at least suggest to your computer allies to attack a specific planet.  I couldn't take a planet by myself since it was a small map for a 4vs4 the only bases that were one jump away from a friendly planet were all heavily fortified by at least two enemy players.

Anyone else frustrated like I am?

Absolutely not supposed to ! If you set LOCKED teams, your allies should NOT attack each other.

Did you at some point reload a saved-game file ?

I ask because there is a bug, in version 1.03, where reloading resets the teams to unlocked !

Version 1.04 will soon fix that. In the meanwhile, you must re-define and re-accept your options before loading a saved game.

Yes I have reloaded a few times. Thank for the reply, next time I get to play I will make sure to re set the options. Now I only have to figure out how to get the AI to help me hehe.

I'm glad we could identify the source of your problem.

It happened to me, before someone told me it was a bug :

I reloaded a save game, and my ally started to offer missions that I did not care to accomplish in time. He gradually lost confidence in me and eventually started to attack -- to my great surprise !

I then realized that the teams had mysteriously unlocked. I think it was Annatar11 who informed me, on the forum, that is was a bug -- soon fixed with patch 1.04.

In the meanwhile, you go where the lock/unlock option is offered (outside of the team-setup screen that you cannot access anymore), and you redefine your preferences and accept the changes. When you will then reload, those changes should be in effect.

Anyway ... we only have a few days to wait before the release of 1.04. « They » (at Ironclad & Stardock) are having a lot of fun, this weekend, testing the patch.

To add, you can also select your allies' ships and you'll be able to show them to move/attack/defend targets of your choice - they might not rush to execute your command (they do have goals of their own even though you're allied), but are generally responsive.

The buttons to give orders will show up on the bottom right of your UI (where the shipyard buttons are when you select a planet).

Yeah, I started a game with locked teams yesterday and quit, and when I came back, teams were unlocked. My enemies were all almost dead anyway, so I just decided to treat it like a civil war broke out. Had a whole other empire to knock out :-)
