The Game Seems So Complex...

Maybe someone could help me?

I got this game recently and just finished all 4 tutorials, but after finishing them...I didn't really feel like I learned anything. There's just so many things in the game! Trading, refineries, extraction, culture, researching tons of things, etc., etc.

Maybe someone could just like...run me through what someone would normally do in a game, perhaps over Ironclad Online? Teach me what it takes to become a good online player?

Trust me, I felt the exact same way when I played the game a week ago. I was all fuzzy and warm after buying the game, they went and was like "This isn't like a normal game."
Truly, it isn't, this is a technical game that lets your grasp everything down to the bones, much like Paradox Interactive's Europa Universalis. Which is an enticing game in itself.

Anywhos! I got around all of that, and now Im able to beat around those hard comps... So whateva! Just give it a shot, DO NOT play a large scale map your first few games, and put the speed on fast, or else you may end up not giving the game its proper chance, or credit.

People have posted game replays on the forum. I'd suggest you look over some of the replays HuntingX posted and watch them. Look at what he does, what he researches, etc.

This is what I did to learn most of the functions. I went through the interface and click on every button starting at the top left. Then I went through the menus and such and clicked everything in there. Finally I read a lot in the manual and the forums on functions or features that I didnt know about. The best way to learn is to play a small map on easy to get the hang of the UI and move up to medium for basic game mechanics. Then hard games to hone those skills.

Thats what I did anyway.

Just experiment against an easy fortifier AI, you should be able to figure things out fairly quickly.

I don't know about online play, but I'd suggest playing a 2v2 with AI using fixed teams. That way you have someone to watch your back, and you have can watch your AI partner and get some tips on what you should be doing. Also, don't forget that you can pause the game at any time, giving you all the time you need to read descriptions, study build trees, etc.

Give it two or three games and you should start to feel pretty comfortable with it.
