Instead of wasting everyones time, you could reserve this, try them out yourself (change them on the scout frigate) to huge numbers, and see the outcome. Then you could post back here, not with a short 10 second post-time question, but a 2 minute post-time answer which could help others save time.

If you have tried this, which something tells me you haven't, I apologise. I think Linear speed is the overall speed of the ships, Accel Strafe is the speed at which ships strafe, Accel/Decel Linear is the accel/decel speed in a straight line, and angular is turning speed. All just guesses, but they seem to be self explanatory.

now.. now..

no harm in asking is there?

Well actually, yes...

mmm.. I will restrain myself. But I won't apologise for what I said, he could have easily tested it himself and I stand by that.

This is why I don't ask alot of questions... and why there's no such thing as a "casual modder". I have done exactly as Uzii suggests, fiddling with the game info and ship files a bit. Making my Capitol Ships turn a little quicker, making the market work a little better. I'll never rival the scale or scope of a major mod. Quite frankly, there are times when I wonder if I've truly broken something. I've had to reinstall once because I did, which means the hour I get to play ended up being the hour I got to reload everything. Truth is, playing WITH the game is more fun than PLAYING the game. Sometimes though, I would really like to ask a question, but don't, because back comes an answer like this... or a pat answer of common knowledge like I'm some kind of neanderthal who can't read. ( Yet they expect me to read it in their response... )

To some, it means I should get out of the modding business and stop wasting valuable time and bandwidth with silly mod questions. I should just shoosh and pipe down and download a real man's mod and play the game. Stop interfering with the real mod persons, and wasting their time with all that trying to learn stuff. I mean really, ask someone who actually knows something? Seek information? Clarity of subject matter? The horrors ! I agree whole heartedly with responses like this to truly inane questions... like "Do my mods go in the mods folder?" type things. It was said awhile back that if you had a question, be specific. I thought the topic to be quite specific. You could even answer only one of the lines to give a direction, and encourage exploration from there, if one cared at all about the OP.

Why do the forums, particularly the mod forum, have to be such a nasty place? Why is it so hard to just ignore a set of questions if you feel they are so beneath you or your skill level? I agree that trying things IS the way that you learn, but I would never be encouraged to go ahead and try because I got barked at.

We are not all the same. We all don't have that programming background or that artistic talent... That doesn't make someone less of a human being. They have a question. They took the time, however short you imagine, to ask it. If it offends you, or your "sensibilities", please just ignore it. Don't take a crap on the guy because you're having a bad hair day or an "episode".

Reading post after post where people are summarily dismissed as 2nd class citizens because they don't have the skill of the 3 people who know is getting old. How many of people like me will not even try to mod or change anything in this game because of the treatment of others they have witnessed in this forum??? How many of us will put this game away and find another that doesn't have all the baggage???

Truth be told, I don't get along with stupid very well. It's probably one of the only prejudices I have left. But this guy didn't ask a stupid question. He didn't deserve to get dumped on.

Now I'm off to see what I can do with this hair...

A nice post... but;
I answered his question to the best of my ability, without actually trying them myself. Yes he asked a specific question, and for that I am thankful. But, could have said what he had tried, what effects he was aiming for, and what files he was editing. When I see a post, with a specific question, that actually looks like they have spent some time on it, I will gladly help as much as I can. But I've seen an increasing amount of posts that, quite frankly, have taken moments to write, and will take a lot longer to respond to. What also irritates me is when the poster doesn't respond. Yes, he may have been occupied with something, but generally, when people really want to know something, they will be checking regularly to see any replies. Even a "Thank you." post would be nice.

I have, as you most probably have seen, answered nearly every topic which I know the answer to, and have generally been patient. Lack of Common Sense is my ultimate hate in this world, and the more this game grows in popularity, the less of it I see here from some newcomers.

Just now I have released a tutorial on how to create a new planet. There is also another one floating around on how to increase Fleet Supply and Capital Ship crews. These, as you probably know, take a long time to make. I have, on average, probably spent twice as much time reading and answering questions and generally helping out others on this forum than working on my mod. I get regular PM's and Emails asking various questions, related to, and not, Sins Plus.

I know Annatar puts a lot of time and patience into these forums, and I have seen a couple of others answering modding questions here. But generally, they would go unanswered if it was not for us few. Most of the other 'major' modders as you put it, answer queries here and there, but generally stick to their mods and questions related to them.

I have to admit though, you are right. My post was out of order, and for that I apologise. However, the point I made is a relevant one, and I will post it again if someone posts a topic like this, but obviously in a less aggressive and undermining manner. And you are mistaken about "that programming background or that artistic talent". I cannot model, my texturing skills are limited, but are growing, and my coding is poor. I have used tutorials and learnt most of what I know today myself. I have used common sense to mod and learn, and gone about things logically. The best tip I can give, is don't start from scratch, but use the Vanilla files and other mods to expand your knowledge, this is what I have done. Two years ago I wouldn't have touched a game file, but now, after personal modding other games, I have finally taken the leap into the deep end and gone for a public release.

Thank you for the response, and for the insight. I must admit, I hesitated for a bit in posting the response because I do see you helping others alot, but the tone of the initial response, as well as the 2nd won out. Please accept my apologies for using your post as the vehicle... and thankyou for helping me to understand your motivations a bit better. If this will help in creating a more cooperative, constructive atmosphere it will have been worth it.

Amen to that, and thank you for not attacking me. Too often on any forum I see someone who just doesn't stop and think, and keeps on and on no matter what is said. I agree with your points above, and will try to avoid posting aggressive things, and just stay clear ;)

Wow, that was one heck of a Hijacking! I hope ye pirates didn't kill 'ol Unheardninja in the process! He hasn't responded in days!

If they didn't want any hijackings, they shouldn't have made a game with Pirates in it... ;)

As for the OP, Is he talking about Fighters? Frigates? CapShips? I'd guess, which I HATE to do, that he's looking at the Strike Craft. Once I know what he's looking at, I can guess with some accuracy...

Which sounds alarmingly like Uzii's original problem with the post, which would make all that followed "on" topic after all, yes?

Actually, I am usually being accused of thinking too much... ;)

Thank you also for allowing it to stay civil. The only thing worse would have been a flame war, which I find to be absolutely senseless.

Just gave a quick read through the "create a planet" tutorial. Think I'm going to try one this weekend. Any hints on creating a convincing sugar free chocolate pudding planet?

Lol, you could actually make a 'Candy' world for the Space Ponies. I remember reading the description of their Bonus, and it saying something about Candy Mountain. So, Candy Planet, would just be a 'ZOMG LOL' moment. :D

Edit: To the OP, I think those values are in the Frigate and Capital ship files. The strikecraft files are very short, with minimal stat references.
