EVE Online Mod?

Hi there...

I am not able to do it but would it not be kinda "natural" to generate an EVE Online modification? The races and many ships could be "copied". Just a thought I had ... Could be something like a fraincaice :)

The races and many ships could be "copied".
End of quote

Generally, copying a bunch of existing stuff is not a very good start to a mod.

I think it would a huge huge task if someone took it on. The amount of ships for one would be hard to do cause they would need to be invented into the game. Planet wise, a 5000+ map would be massive, and definately a month or 2 min game to play.

Well.. I think you both missunderstood me!

One could pretend that sins is an EVE-Online RTS game so to say. Having Amar, Caldari, Gallente and Minmatar replacing the races in sins.

Copying the "ships" would mean: Generate models which look alike to the ones in EVE for the races EVE has. Using similiar weapon types or as close as you can get. Change balance accordingly. Change names and texts. Use similiar graphics for planets... maybe even for the gui. Stuff like that!

I did not mean to establish a playing field as big as EVE has... or go and try to get a more RPG feeling to sins or even some kind of persistent multiplayer match ... thats out of what I want to suggest.

I would like something like this much more then star-wars/gate or whatever mod. But thats just me of course... (maybe because I played eve but not swg :)

That wouldn't be a very fun mod, though. Just trying to be the same as something else and not changing anything is sort of a waste of time. If you're going to create a mod you should make it unique with new gameplay, not just shoehorn the existing gameplay into what you're trying to emulate.

Huh? He is talking about a whole new gameplay experience. EVE is played where you have one single ship, and command it from an almost first-person view. What Oderwat is suggesting here is implementing EVE’s factions – Caldari, Gallante, and the other two—and their ships in an RTS game instead, where you would be commanding many of these ships and at the same time actually managing structures and strategic locations.

Sure, the concept would be inspired by EVE, but even if it runs on the idea of something else it can still be considered a legitimate game modification with the appropriate approval from the original game’s devs (CCP in this case).

I personally love the idea of being in control of EVE’s huge variety of ships and the ways that they could be used in a strategy game instead of a MMO. The Titans, huge-ass battleships, and the little frigates… I have to say, it would definitely be a bit more immersive than vanilla Sins if executed properly.

The system requirements for the game if it were done would probably take a pretty sizeable jump, since the maps would probably have to be a good deal larger for the concept to work… gravity wells would have to be enlarged considerably… lots of technical factors to punch in there, but with dedicated effort and CCP’s permission (they gave it to another modding group back for Homeworld I believe, it would’ve been good advertising for their actual game), I think it would really pay off. I’d love to see it.
