Only Three Races!?!?!

Only Three Races!?!?!

I just got Sins of a Solar Empire today and I found out that there are only three races......Is it not possible to mod more races into the game? Similar to Stardock's Galactic Civilizations 2: Dread Lords...?

Plus theres no Mod folder in my Local Ironclad Games folders....?

Oh I see Annatar, now its there. So I just go a head and put the mods I download in there? Ok thanks :D

Yep, just make sure they extract into the proper folders and everything - modders should just package their mod folder so everything should be right by default, but you never know :P

I don't think that mod is out yet.

ok thanks :)

Don't suppose you know how to add races?

Adding a race is as easy as copying a player****.entity file, and changing some names around :P The file itself contains all the buildings, ships, music tracks, research, few other settings. So as you add stuff (or change stuff) for your race, you just plug the different file names and such in there :P

There's a quick tutorial in one of the modding pdfs you can download with the Beta mod tools in the site's Downloads section. Make sure you grab the 1.03 reference data, also - you'll need it ;)

Not trying to sound rude or anything but what drives people to buy games they know nothing about?

Emphasis mine. :-)

Though that would be more appropriate for games other than SoaSE, seen zero marketing for it over here. Guess word of mouth does the same job.

OK annatar, i'm still having problems with the name issue. I don't know what is wrong with it but it is refusing to change the selecteable race name from TEC

Try changing it to PSI or something, see if it takes an already-existing one.. I'm running out of ideas, but something's gotta be wrong somewhere, because it should work :x

I just tried doing this for myself, and everything worked fine. Exact steps:

1) Created UNSCTest mod folder in my mod path
2) Copied GameInfo and String folders with 1.03 data
3) In GameInfo, made a copy of playertech.entity and renamed to playerUNSC.entity.
4) Opened playerUNSC.entity and changed raceNameStringID "IDS_PLAYERRACENAME_TECH" to raceNameStringID "IDS_PLAYERRACENAME_UNSC"
5) Saved :P
6) Opened English.str in the String folder, added: StringInfo
ID "IDS_PLAYERRACENAME_UNSC"
Value "UNSC"
to the end of the file.
7) Increased NumStrings on top by 1.
8) Started game, enabled mod, switched between selectable races on the game setup screen, and UNSC showed up as UNSC.

:SURPRISED:

wait you add
ID "IDS_PLAYERRACENAME_UNSC"
Value "UNSC"

to the END of the file?? I was doing it to the beginning. Let me go test it out.

It doesn't matter where in the file it is, I like to add to the end since it's cleaner.

As long as it's after the count and all that good stuff, it should be fine I'd think.

I did everything in that list. Can you check what is wrong? Just download this and tell me what's up with it.

Your playerUNSC.entity is in binary. I see that it shows up as TEC, and the String file looks okay.

I tried your string with my player entity and it worked, so it's gotta be something funky in your player entity file.

Here's my test mod, you can compare, or use it or whatever :P I left it in text.
