Does Empire Tree Work in 1280x1024?

I'm new to the game, so there's more than a passing chance of user error here, but once I get a large number of planets/fleets, it seems that the scroll bar does not corrrectly control the full list of objects in the tree. Very often whatever fleet or planet I have selected is above/below the visible display of objects, but the scroll bar behaves very strangely, and I usually cannot bring the selected object into the display (however I can make all the objects disappear!).

Is this a known bug? If so is there a workaround? Or, is there some likely mistake I am making here?

Greets,

This happens to me at 1680x1050, but only if pausing the game. Are you pausing too by chance? If so, shift clicking the top of the empire tree in blank space (just above the first listed planet for example) seems to fix it.

Cheers,
Mopy

Thanks for the quick reply!

I think we are talking about the same bug here, but while shift clicking seems to corrrect the problem for a moment, as soon as I click on a fleet, the selected fleet is mostly above the top of the screen (I can see just one of the selected ships).

I'll try a couple of other resolutions and see if they're "safe".

Resolution change doesn't seem to fix it. In fact, I'm guessing that going to large resolution will actually help to work around it, since it seems to depend on how long your list of objects in the tree is.

If this bug is not resolution-specific, then it would seem to be a pretty serious bug. Am I missing something here?

This happens to me, but at the lowest resolution (poor video card), and when pausing. It seems as if the empire tree doesn't refresh when paused, so if you scroll, no new ships appear, but you can bring the old view back on.

I've been playing around now, and Mopes' workaround does seem to do the trick. It's a bit annoying (and worth fixing, I would say!), but it doesn't make the game unplayable, in any sense.

Now you can call me a wimp for pausing all the time, but for any turn based strategy fan, this game is still quite excellent, so long as you can enter your orders and do your thinking while paused (but from this perspective, it becomes important to fix this bug).

For anyone reading afterwards, if the empire tree is mucked up, all you need to is to get the scroll bar positioned such that the object your interested in *would* be in the display, if it hadn't disappeared, and then click in the area of the empire tree display, and then the object will be correctly displayed (with all of it's child objects also correctly displayed). The higher the resolution you play at, the less painful this bug is.
