No sound whatsoever after intro movies.

I installed the game, and immediately updated to the 1.03 patch. The sound works fine in the intro movie, but as soon as it drops to the menu I hear a quick crackle and all sound stops working. I have tried updating DirectX and my sound card drivers, to no avail. I cannot find any sound settings in-game that might be causing an issue.

System specs: E6750 processor, Gigabyte P35-DS3L motherboard, 2GB RAM, EVGA 256MB 8800GT, E-MU 0404 sound card (this might be the problem - it's oriented towards music production and recording rather than games), 1.3TB HDD space, Corsair 450W PSU, Windows XP SP2.

see if changing this will help

find the file "user.setting"

can be found here

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\

open the file with notepad and look for the line that says

SoundUseHardware FALSE

change the FALSE to TRUE

Try turning sound acceleration down a notch in control panel->sounds and audio.

I had to turn the hardware acceleration completely off to get any sound at all, and even now it has severe crackling and popping issues. This is not affected by whether bloom is on or off, or whether the game is windowed or fullscreen. This is extremely frustrating, and disappointing considering every other game I own works fine with my audio hardware.
