I think the only other thing I've seen on Totalgaming that's a bit more mainstream is Painkiller, but their developer, People Can Fly, is not as well known as Chris Taylor/Gas Powered Games.

And Steam-like features will make setting up and finding multiplayer games that much easier.

Only if people were to use them. I never use steam's community stuff -- ever. Why should I? I have yahoo, I have MSN, thats all I need / want. I sure don't want a huge memory / bandwidth hog (if a patch is released) sitting in the background, deciding what I can / can not do.

ICO is plenty to get games going, if people are on it. Otherwise... vent and MSN works great for my guild!

Sounds like Stardock has exclusive publishing rights:

"Not only do we have a proven retail publisher, but we get to partner with a pioneer in the digital distribution space...a company that totally understands what kind of experience our customer wants and the quality game they demand," said Gas Powered Games founder and CEO Chris Taylor.

Quite interesting! Probably goes to show that companies don't just list on Steam out of any sort of dedication to it, and would gladly consider less-restrictive alternatives if they're available :P

I hear you. I like being able to use Steam's "Join Game" feature for pickup games whenever I decide to play Team Fortress 2 and a few people I know are already playing it (otherwise Steam has no business running). Of course this is pretty much useless for Sins since you can't join midgame, but could be useful for other things. Before that I used Xfire. I stopped using it because I forgot my password.

So does this mean I can use tokens to buy/pre-order demigod? If so I am EXTREMELY excited about this. I love DOTA and have been watching Demigod closely. Man this is cool.

Excellent, I love GPG and Stardock/Ironclad are 2 of my favourites companies. Seeing how Impulse could help to have some of the best games of the world on one plateform is a fresh "impulse" to the industry.
Can't wait for the beta-test of Demigod. :d

Steam's community features are great and it doesn't take up that much memory as you may think. There is no need for MSN, yahoo when gaming because you can use steam's IM and voice communication. The group and join in game friends list is great for playing with your friends, tons of people use the community feature.By using MSN and vent you are taking up more space but if you use steam's community feature you have vent and msn in 1 package.

Again, why would I use steam? I have vent and MSN, and steam doesn't work very well. And fact is, I don't believe you about Steam not using more space.

Is impulse going to replace the current stardock software then? If so I am assuming I keep all the games I have purchased? I am hoping they do demigod exactly like they did sins. Pre-order the game and you are in on the beta process.

Impulse is, for the sake of argument, a snazzier Stardock Central. It will be fully aware of all the Stardock products you own already. If you want to try it before initial release, it's here:

http://storage.stardock.com/files/Impulse_setup.exe

Impulse is a bit flaky, but where it's at now is a bit better than where it was a few weeks ago. My biggest problem was it not recognizing that I had Dark Avatar and Twilight installed. I had to hack the registry and add key values.

So be aware that it's still in beta and not perfect. it will show some application updates that SDC does not show, because it apparently does use a different back-end for the installations than SDC.

Just go back to the last page and follow the links people posted to the Wired blogs and a few others :P

In short, Stardock is publishing GPG's Demigod and will be making it available on Impulse, and there will also be a summer beta program for the game for Impulse users :P

Who knows? But odds are... yes, thats the announcement. Well, impulse is anyway.

Yeah I figured Impulse was a good bet to be at least part of the announcement yesterday and downloaded the beta to check it out. I was hoping maybe a crazy amount of new playable factions for Sins...let that be a lesson: aim high and get ready for disappointment X-(

Ron, it's not hidden or anything. If you just go to the forums on WinCustomize.com (Stardock's Windows customization web site), then go to the Sneak Previews sub-forum, you'll see Brad's post about it. There's plenty of threads on it in there, and a support forum for it on the forum section of Stardock.com.

If Impulse and Demigod isn't the announcement, then my bets are still on the second expansion for GalCiv II. It was in a double post I had earlier. Yes, it's been announced already, but maybe they'll say "It's done now!" and make everybody happy.

And speaking of Gas Powered Games, didn't they develop Supreme Commander? At this rate all Stardock would need to do is get digital distribution rights to Relic's and Blizzard's games to become the de facto strategy game publisher on the market. And maybe rights to Command and Conquer too (I still call the developers Westwood in my head).
