Expansion Suggestion: Hulks and Point Defence

Another Worthless Suggestion

I have thought about this a bit, but why don't factions have some basic defense guns on their factories and such? I would expect a factory to have a measly little peashooter to attack fighter craft, since they are valuable structures. Yeah. Also, every space game that I HAVE PLAYED had the typical system of ship destruction: You shoot, the ship explodes in a spectacular fireball. But, what if a ship was shot up, and virtually destroyed, but it did not explode, say if the crew managed to turn off the power source or something. Maybe ships, when destroyed, could have a chance of simply becoming derelicts that can be salvaged by construction vessels. My two bits...

seems more like something you would research, as they're highly specialized structures.
still, I wouldn't mind some flak on there, and it doesn't seem unrealistic.
heh, I'm about to go make a worthless topic/suggestion myself ^_^

The point defense would be a good fix to the Vasari Phasic Barrie problem.

Actually, I'd love to see all structures get a small defense gun (Like a Siege frigate gets). I'd also give something like that to the trade ships, maybe with an upgrade. Or make it faction specific. Vasari get cloak or something, advent shields, and TEC big guns.

tradeships would be quite interesting with guns on them, because if an enemy planet was on the trade route, the ships could eventually wear down enemy structures there. It'd be easy to guard against though, and you'd get cash from killing the tradeships.
I guess I wouldn't mind that too much. And I guess tradeships would get in fights with each other, which I guess makes sense. Still tradeships are tiny things and I couldn't see them defending against any frigate.
I don't really care either way *shrug*

I didnt mean to actually kill frigates, but a single raiding light frigate might want to stay away from large developed planets, especially when they have a dozen trade ships around too.

Mostly, I think it would make the game feel more alive. Add some missiles or fighters planetside, and I think the game would be more fun, and more exciting. I'd also make fighters patrol the planet.

Some realism has to be sacrificed in order to maintain gameplayer.

Sure, point defense would be awesome when you're fighting missile heavy enemies, like LRM spam or the Vasari, but then what would be the point for them against the Advent, who only use energy weapons and beams which can't be stopped by PD? It would give the Advent an unfair advantage (however slight).

As for hulks, I like that idea, but it'd only work for the larger ships (I imagine frigates blow up quite easily).

As for missiles/fighters planetside, think of it this way--space is REAL big. In fact, there should be absolutely no problem building as many logistics and tac slotted structures at any given planet. However, you're not able to because of gameplay reasons.
