Video Resolution Trouble on Laptop

I'm running SoaSa on a Laptop whose native resolution screen is 1680x1050.  In the game menu there is no option of changing the game's resolution. The menu where the list of resolutions should exist is devoid of all options, so the game is natively stuck on something like 800x600 (or equally unacceptale level).

Is there anyway for me to alter the resolution in game to 1680x1050 outside of the in-game menu, or make this option appear?

I've tried utilizing both normal laptop drivers and modified desktop drivers, neither has been successful in making available the list of resolutions in game.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out.

I don't have my vista machine booted up, but if you look around you can find the Vista directory for the games files...

C:\Documents and Settings\

This sounds like it's similar (if not the exact same thing) I did in order to 'fix' the resolution in Neverwinter Nights 2. The thing is I've had no success in finding the file in order to change the Width and Height.

In Neverwinter Nights 2 it's found in My Documents and it's a Notepad file. I've used search/ advanced search and not been able to locate the SoaSE one (file that contains these values) Manual searching has yeilded no result either.

If you could step-by-step or let me know what to type as the search string in order to locate the file that would be fantastic.

From Brad's technical FAQ:

Where is my Sins settings file found?

This file is located at:

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting

Please note these directories may be Hidden by default. To unhide them, go to your Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

I don't have the Ironclad folder in that subdirectory. Believe me, I searched the entire hard drive for this file. Maybe it is because I had the demo installed first? I uninstalled the demo before installing the full game, of course!

Well, sometimes it's the obvious that yields the desired result. I checked the show hidden files and found what I was looking for in about 30 seconds.

The SoaSE settings file is indeed where Ron Lugge and Hollow Man indicated. I just needed to 'show hidded files' in order to find it. DOH! Should have thought of that in the first place.  :p

Thanks for the help. Now I can enjoy Sins' glorious graphical beauty. Huzzah!  :HOT:

Thanks again!

Still can't find it, not even when I show hidden files.

I have the same video card, same operating system, same resolution, same problem as the original poster. I followed the directions, edited the settings file, but it has caused the program to no longer open. It just launches, screen goes black and hangs. It creates a minidump file everytime. I have tried changing the resolution to 1650x1050/1280x1080/1440x900. None have worked. Advice?
