Strategy for an Expanding Empire

Good day,

I'm new to Sins, and the first thing I did was go to a 100 planet match and I've been playing all weekend, and I would like to ask advice on something.

I've been expanding to distant stars, and I usually have 5 Light Frigates (I'm TEC) at each planet. My economy is the best out of the 10 empires (not to brag), and I have about 3 Fleets (Which are a Capital Ship, 10 Heavy Cruiser and 5 Missile Frigates) running around trying to hold off the larger raids...

I was just wondering if there was a better way to protect my empire, because it can be overwhelming having to defend 10 planets against 4 raids, and I'm too lazy to make more fleets...

The more attacked planets have hangar defense(x3)

Thanks for your input

More fleets is really the way to go in a game this big. The bigger the system/game the more you will have to manage at once. I don't know a "easier" of trying to conquer 100 + planets :) .

I haven't played on any of the massive maps yet, but on medium size maps I try to expand to key chokepoints and hold the line there. That way I can limit how many paths an enemy can take into my empire and can concentrate my forces to make any sort of intrusion very painful for the other player. Note that I said I try to expand to key chokepoints. A planet may be one or two jumps away, but if gaining control of it will make my empire easier to defend I tend to think that the risk is well worth it.

You could probably bite the bullet and kill-off the pirate-base at your home star ;) Use your caps to go in and destroy a few pirate ships, then retreat, repair, & repeat.

I haven't actually done this yet, so try at your own risk... Good luck.

One tip on your fleets: Up the number of Missile Frigates in them (From 5 to 15-20 or so, ideally). They are dirt-cheap and very effective in large groups. And TEC get the best ones.

That *SHOULD* allow you much more "Punch" out of your fleets for a relatively minor investment, and with the extreme range of the Frigates, you will manage to inflict some more casualties on the enemy before they manage to jump to another planet. Remember that any ship that successfully runs away will be repaired for free, and will return another day. -But ships that go *Boom* are gone for good, along with the money and resources it cost to build them.
