New patch has made game unplayable - constant crashes!

I have NEVER had this issue, I have never crashed before.  Until I upgraded tonight to 1.4 or whatever, now EVERY game I play within the first 5 minutes to 35 minutes I crash.  I can't even finish a bloody game!

e6600 2.4 ghz
2 gigs dominator ram
X-fi sound card
Vista-32bit home premium
8800gtx

Crashes appear to happen at random :(

Tried looking about 5 threads down the list before making a new thread?

If you havent upgraded to SP1 I suggest doing so because it improves most games stability and has even been noticed on some systems to improve FPS and more.

Vista Update

(note this update is included in SP1)

and you'll be fine.Unless you have a more severe vista problem (which has its own thread stickyed to the top of the forums) in which case your screwed till nvidia comes through.

Try reinstalling. And this isn't tech support, it's a forum. You can contact Ironclad or Stardock. They have tech support emails

Have you modified any of the game files, or are using a mod?

The minidumps may be caused by trying to load save games from the previous versions. That's what happened to me, and I was tearing my hair out until I figrued it out. No crashes since.

I dont know what a mini dump is but it's random, and no save games.

*points to my earlier post* try that if that doesnt work then you have a more wide spread problem.

If you are experiencing crashes, please zip up the following items and email them to [email protected] with a description of the problem:

+ A dxdiag of your PC (Start -> Run -> type "dxdiag" and hit Enter -> Save all information).

+ Any mini-dump files that were generated from the locations below (note that these directories are Hidden by default):

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\Sins Dump

Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Sins Dump

+ For multiplayer games, please include your save games from each person who crashed.

It should go without saying that if you haven't done it already, make certain you have the latest video and sound drivers for your systems.

I think I have this figured. For one let me start of by saying that my XP install is always up to date.

Now, I would get the occasional minidump back in 1.03 but they were very rare. Then I updated to 1.04 and quickly started a game with my buds. No problems. However, the patch had turned off some of my graphic affects settings, specifically the "BLOOM" affect. So before the next game I turned it on. We tried five or six times to get a game going but every time after about 10 minutes BAM, minidump crash. Like clockwork. Was getting really frustrated and was thinking about reinstalling. However, being that I am a software engineer by trade, I was trying to figure out what was causing it. Was it time or event based? Some more trials ensued and I started to realize that it crashed almost immediately after my fleet reached the first planet i wanted to colonize. Not an asteriod but a planet. That and the fact that my very first game worked got me thinking about what had changed. I turned off the "BLOOM ENABLED" setting and TADA! Not a single problem since.

Something about that setting was definately causing my crashes. If you are having similar issues to what I described then I suggest making sure that setting is off.

hope that helps.

Mods designed for 1.03 or ealirer wont work correctly with later patchs and will run into a minidump because of it.

Check for an updated "1.04 proof" version of your mod and it will work.
