Traveling to a different Star? What am I missing

Will do

I have no doubt if/when I get an answer I will look like a super noob.  Embarrassment ensues.  I am playing a game with five suns, I have conquered all the local planets but now need to travel to another sun.  There are no phase lanes.  I attempt to 'move' my ship there and I get a "will do" and nothing happens.  Please tell me, how do I travel to another sun will playing TEC.

Thanks, Much

Hi diamont,

Have you researched long range jumps in the civilian tech tree?

Yeah research long range jumps and then right click on the star just like u would a planet.

All routes to other suns depart and arrive from the orbit of your own star as well, so if you didn't see anything happening and yet did the research, it was likely that your ships were going to the local star first.

I'm guessing that's because the star has the strongest gravity well gradient and that level of power differential is what's necessary to power such a long jump.

You need to slingshot around the sun to build up speed and then use the other one to slow down. It's all very complicated and involves some complicated maths.
If you don't get it right, you end up having your ship go back in time and the only way to get back again is to reverse the manuever, but with some whales from San Francisco in your hold.... :D
