A couple of basic questions: phase inhibitors and repair platforms.

1) Are the effects of phase inhibitors cumulative?  The reason I ask is I used auto placement, and the computer plopped one down right next to an existing inhibitor.  So, I wonder if two covering the same area will double the effect and make enemy ships take longer to bug out.

2) How close does a ship/structure have to be to a repair platform to get repaired--in the same gravity well, on the same side of the planet, or right up next to it?  During a battle it's hard to keep an eye on that kind of thing.

Oh, one last question.  When you explore a world and find an artifact, how do you use it?  I've found some but haven't a clue what to do with them.  I've checked in the artifact screen, and they aren't listed.  So, I must be doing something wrong.

Thanks for any info you can give.

1) Nope, they don't stack in effect.
2) You can hold down Alt (or hover over the repair ability) of the platform and it will show you its operational range in purple. This range also shows while you're placing the structure. You can use alt/hover over ability to show ranges on everything ;)

Are you sure you found an artifact? If it says (assuming you are TEC) "Our analysts have found something interesting," it means you found a planet bonus - mouse over the world to see what it does. If it says something like (if you are, say, Advent) "Our scryers have found a powerful artifact!" then *that's* an artifact. Go to your research and check the artifacts tab to see what it does, or you can mouse over the world on which you found it.

All artifact effects are passive, so you don't "use" them so much as be happy you can jump faster or whatever.

Thanks for the responses. I probably got merely planetary bonuses, so it's good to know I don't have to do anything with them. And thanks for the heads up to know the radius of the repair platform. Since I mostly use auto placement, I didn't see the purple outline until I did myself after reading your response.

Great game! I've stayed up waaaaay tooo late the last few nights (3am), so tonight I've got to get to bed earlier.

Good luck with that. I said the same thing to myself and still ended up playing until 2 AM or later. My wife thinks I've lost my mind. ;p

End of quote

Yesterday at midnight (well, earlier today) I started my 2nd full game since "getting" how to play Sins. I could have gone to bed at any point but wound up hiting the hay at 6 AM! :D

I'm still quite noobish, but I found a tremendous difference between my first 1.03 patch Easy AI opponent on a small map, and a 1.04 patch Normal AI. The normal AI was sending massive fleets at me (20+ ships) including 2 or 3 Capital ships. Also, as was noted in another thread somewhere about the 1.04 patch, the AI would attack me in two areas with TWO such fleets in different places, and defend itself very, very competently. Many times I had to warp out of a fight when I saw what was at the gravity well I'd just jumped to.

In the end, I won because I fielded more cap ships per fight at once (I think I had 3 in my main fleet, and 3 more in 2 separate "backup" fleets) and because I had basically every single option in the "Millitary" tech tree completely maxed out and upgraded. It was a grinding, back-and-forth game and I loved it.

Hence why I went to bed at 6 AM. :)
