Can't update with patch 1.4

I have downloaded the patch three times and reinstalled the game via DVD twice and been unable to get patch to work.

Error:

You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please rerun this installation from an administrator's account.

As I am using the one account on my laptop and it is the administrator's account I am at a loss on how to proceed.

If you're on vista, don't you have to right-click the patch, and select "Run as Administrator"?

I am using XP though I did try using Run As... and my administrator account was checked.

I have the same problem.
XP - Logged in as administrator.. Have just given my administrator all permissions in entire registry, still doesn't work.

This is a real guess, but do you have a legal copy of the game with serial number registered? Perhaps (this is a way out guess) you now need the game registered, and this is the error if it is not. I know old versions of Photoshop would error out if you tried to update a copy that had a widely used serial number.

But I'm stabbing in the dark. This is a bizarre error to get if you have a stock Sins install and you are using an admin account.

Hm, I made it work.
After reading Hollow Mans comment, I remembered that I had gotten an error when trying to "Update Serial"
Looking at the error-msg again, I searched my registry and fooled around a bit.

Solution:
run->regedit->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins -> Right click-> permissions -> give yourself full permission to this

Update Serial to the game
Run Sins_Bonuspack_104_setup.exe again.. should work

Thank you very much Holbek. That worked except minus the wownode. Could it have messed up because I mistyped the cd code the first time?
