Questions about surviving as Advent against an LRM rush?

You get hosts at the same time they get LRMs, duh.

If you play Advent, take advantage of that you get drone host tier two.

1) Build a crystal extractor.

2) Build a cap facility

3) Build 2 diciples (don't bother with a scout in the beginning)

4) Look for a) asteroid belts b) asteroids, with your diciples

5) Build either a mothership or a capital of your choice at the expense of a colony frig (you also get a combat ability

this way. I personally like carriers, but be careful not to let it die to enemy caps (build 2 bombers with it).

6) Take an asteroid and  build crystal extractor. Use colony frigate to take asteroid crystal if possible. (Build one even

if you have a mothership at this point.)

6) Build metal extractors on your homeoworld (you do need them somewhat. maybe you should build one a little

    earilier even).

7) Build two temples of hostility (if you did it right, you should be able to do this simultaneously, metal first then

    these.)

8) Research drone host.

8) Build 12 drone hosts.

9) Load them with fighters and watch your opponent bawl as he loses all his LRMs. (make sure you run your hosts

    away from his slow LRMs).

10) Switch the fighters to bombers, and build 10 or so diciples (yes, I know these are food for LRM's. Bear with me.)

11) Your "sneaky" opponent undoubtably read on the forumns that flaks are  "cheap" against fighters. He will build

them. Maybe he had 10 or so the first time, and it just didn't matter.

12) Use your bombers to take out the ultra squishy lrms this time. Then bring in the diciples for his flaks.

Note: If you can get illuminators instead. Great. Use them on his LRMs once some of them are cleared, then go for his

         flaks with them.

I hope this helps some newbs cope with the "ultra cheap" LRM strategy. Please bear in mind that you could probably build 22 drone hosts before a big LRM rush, but do not do this. Build like 15 max, and then go for illuminators + diciples, which you should keep away from a huge lrm blob. Also note that if he goes flak heavy, well then that's not an LRM rush anymore. Is it? Build no flak yourself and build illuminators.

PS. You should take any ice planets you find before volcanic, if you can defend them.

12 Drone Hosts?

That sets you back some 5,820 Credits, 1080 Metal, 1020 Crystal.

For the straight up cost, that would buy a TEC 21 Javelis with a nice junk of Crystal and a bit of Metal to spare. Or if they scouted you and decided to forgo some Jaevlis (maybe just 15) they could throw in enough Flak to neutralize the Drone Hosts fairly efficiently.

The 10 Disciples are another significant investment considering that they are fodder, even suicide mission after the Flaks they'll die to the LRMs due to how how much hp the Flaks (and if the Flaks aren't neutralized before the craft go out, the Drone Hosts are useless).

All the decent LRM rushes I've seen put in Flak, they make the LRMs more effective at fighting their most common counter, other LRMs, but also will counter any pesky strikecraft. And a true rush often will usually be arriving long before any significant number of Drone Hosts appear though, if a Sova and just half a dozen LRMs show up you would be in real trouble.

A more cost effective strategy is usually just Defense Vessels and some Disciples and get to Illuminators as fast as possible. Drone Hosts are too expensive and too easily countered, unless you're playing against someone who has only memorized how to build Javelis. Illuminators really are good right now, for the cost of 12 Drone Hosts you can buy 15 of those (with resources to spare) and have a much more flexible harder hitting counter to the Javelis.

i hate to rain on your parade, but your strat doesn't counter the lrm rush, when done properly. It may counter a half-ass lrm rush, but not a properly executed one.

what if your opponent builds 15 LRMs and 6 Flak?

A straight LRM rush, that really focuses on rushing instead of expanding can be countered with scouts.

This is the biggest load of bs i've seen posted on the forums.

Illums are powerful now. Counter LRM rush with LRM rush..
Sometimes you don't have to get fancy...

Please no one listen to this guy.

He is just a troll.

No I'm not. I've made this work. They need about 2/3 the flak that you make the hosts, or the flak get overwhelmed. If they build that many flak, then that's a significant investment.

"15 LRMS and 6 flak" You have 108 fighters.

What happens is that you kill all his LRMS, hands down.

Again, setting people up for failure. Like Jinx said, it may work against a half ass LRM rush but would definitely not work against a well micro'd LRM rush.

If they embargo you, you're even more screwed.

I always build radience, so I've never encountered this problem.

I've done this before too.
