1.04 AI Still needs work

I'm a little dissapointed that in 1.04 the AI still isn't building enough capital ships.

Many have posted about that too.  How hard can it be to double the ratio of capital ships to frigates?  If there is a good reason why you can't do that in general, then how about providing a mod setting for it?

The AI isn't building enough defense modules around it's colonies either.  It's kind of a dissapointment to send a fleet to their homeworld and find only 3 defense platforms and no hangers?  What kind of a race leaves their homeworld undefended?  Again, it doesn't seem like it should be that hard to make the AI build twice as many tactical modules as they currently do.

Myself and others have posted asking for more settings to mod the AI, or at least make the current settings have more effect.  I've doubled and tripled the Gameplay.constants, BuildModuleTactical without much noticable effect.

The biggest improvement I notice after 1.04 is the AI fleets don't run away so much.  That improves gameplay for me and I appreciate it, but these other two problems remain.

Well on Normal difficulty that seems to be the case, but on Hard I dont see this issue at all.

The Hard AI is pretty intelligent, and will always match or better what iv got.

But hey as far as more Mod support im all for it!

Right now one of my AI's is building a fleet of epic proportions. With enhanced PSIDAR, I've just watched an endless stream of ships packing into an asteroid. When I jump in with a scout, a sea of units awaits me.

They haven't moved in an hour, and I'm wondering if the AI is about to steamroll me, or he's stuck...

The ai doesn't like attacking me if I've beaten him off several times.

I used to be constantly assaulted by Green and Orange (no allies, they were on each of my sides) and I was able to beat them off with a stick.

I had one of the worst military scores in the game and my forces were split into three to defend my system, they never attacked me again.

:/

i agree medium ai is still a little lacking but it's only on medium, on hard every group of ships i run into has at least two cap ships with loads of units, so i dont really see any problem with it on hard. oh and off the sub is anyone having problems with no sounds once updated to v1.04, just wondering

I played a locked racial 2 v 3 v 3, all random hard, using your HeavyNova2 AI changes.

My partner was pretty agressive, but kept sending his fleet to the rear to deal with rebels rather than dropping a couple hangers in each. VERY annoying.

The prize winner for goofyness though, was my last game in 103, with Sins Plus - there was a choke point that had the Deadly Secret bonus. In that game, my partner camped the planet spamming colonize and immediately losing it for the rest of the game. To make it doubly irritating, I had placed antimatter generatorS before I explored and lost it. The game ended up unfinished, 104 release thankfully put that game out of its misery ;)

To me, 104 seems improved. I have seen some absolutely brutal builds, but I have to agree with the lack of planet defense.

The hard AI is brutal. I was playing a quick muck-around game against it last night and the amount of ships it managed to produce was astonishing.

Come on guys the hard AI isn't that good! They still save a huge amount of resources for a rainy day and do not reinforce their planets properly. It's inexcusable to have 100,000+ credits and planets not reinforced.

On top of that, the AI does not really know how to fight. The big game winners in Sins is capital ship abilities. Use them right and you will win almost any battle - the AI doesn't seem to know how to do this though and so will always be a distant second best to even a half intelligent human player. When they do something right I often question if it was blind luck or why they dont do similar things more often.

Yes 1.04 is a big improvment, a testimant to the hard work of the dev's. They can still do better though :D
