Phase Lanes?

Not sure if this is possible, but does anyone know if phase lanes can be turned off?  I would like to be able to jump from one planet to any other planet.  I know the Vasari have the abilty to build phase stablizers to allow this from any of the planets where one is built.  But I would like to be able to jump directly to an enemy planet (and have then be able to jump to mine as well).  The idea being that these are all space faring civilizations that can traverse wormholes and travel from star to star, so they sould be able to travel from planet to planet within the same system without having to go through other planets first.  I understand the reason for the phase lanes, and it allows for nice choke points.  But I am interested in seeing how it would work if all planets in a system were fair game.  It would greatly change strategy in playing I would think.  If this has already been asked about I am sorry, but I am curious.

Only thing I can think of is give all planets a passive ability like the phase stabs.

If you want to try it out and see how it works, you might see if you can modify the visuals for the phase lines, make them transparent, and then build a map in Galaxy Forge with every possible connection.

Just an idea.

Technically, you can just disable display of phase lanes in the Interface settings and make a map where everything is connected to everything :P

Initially thought this was a hilarious idea, but on further reflection it might actually produce a playable game. With choke-points eliminated players would have to be much more careful with how they distribute planet upgrades and buildings, and I would imagine it would see players use multiple small fleets instead of a couple of massive ones. After your first radar research you'd be able to see all imminent threats, so rallying to defense wouldn't be too hard. It would utterly suck to get jumped by more opponents than you have allies though. I might give this a whirl tonight.

I would point out that linking everything to everything messes up quite a few things for instance: Allegiance, Culture, Trade Ports, Refineries, Jump Detection, Phase stabilisers, and probably some others that i forgot

Hey, 100% allegiance everywhere :P But yeah, everything that works on # of jumps will be messed up because everything will always be 1 jump.

What if you make the distances between planets very, very long? It won't make much of a difference for things like allegiance, but the distance should slow down the culture spread rate (I think). It'd also make fleet movement a matter of distance and not the number of jumps needed to get to a destination, which'd make things pretty interesting, especially if you see an enemy fleet heading toward your planet and it takes them the better part of a minute to get there.

So far what I've been tryong to do is what Kiedjor suggested. I added the passive ability PhaseGateModule to every planet. In theory I am trying to allow travel from anyone planet to another directly using the Vasari Phase Gate abilty, without having to have phase gates built or research done. But alas so far I havent been able to achieve my goal. Ideally I would like to eventually permit all three races to travel anywhere within a star system directly thru research. I'm not the best modder though and I am having trouble so far. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
