My ships decided to traverse the void without jump engines!

Hi everyone...

A rather funny thing happened to me last night. I was playing a game on the map 'gateway' (single player game) and all was going well, until I told my fleet to jump to the neighbouring planet. The ships passed the usual jump location just at the border of the gravity well, left the gravity well and started to traverse the void of space in a reincarnation of the Great Trek :-) They did not jump...just kept moving toward the next planet (oviously they didn't get there) I had to order them back to the border of the gravity well and reinstate the order to jump. Then they finally obeyed me and jumped. I took screenshots of the event just so that people would believe me, and I'll upload them when I can.

In a second strange occurrence, my fleet (when told to all jump together to a distant planet) split itself up and my one capital ship jumped one totally different way, and the rest jumped together. I think that perhaps could have happened because the phase lane length calculation for the 'shortest route' was different for the ships relative to that one cap which was on the other side of the gravity well - but thats a BIG guess :-) I do think it would be good to fix this 'glitch' and force a fleet to always jump together when instructed to do so and along the same route - I nearly lost that cap as it stampeded through enemy territory :-)

Anyway...has anyone else experienced this problem?

Keep well.

I've had the same thing. My fleet split in 2 and set off on completely different routes to get to the same planet, they got there at completely different times so the pathfinding certainly isn't based on time of journey. I didn't have Jump as Fleet enabled though and I'd hope they wouldn't do that if I had.

The splitting of the fleet: I think it was mentioned somewhere. It is a feature. The fleet is considered to be complete, when some exact part of the fleet is ready. It is useful, when you move large fleets. Otherwise the all the ships would have waited for single frigate.

First things first :) Are you playing with 1.04?

Now to the rest :)

Do you have a save or replay of this? If you do, send it to [email protected] (only if it happened with 1.04, hence the first question :)) and include a description so they can take a look :P I haven't seen any normal engine travel for a long time, myself, but it used to be a bug that popped up constantly in beta in different forms :P

I have seen this happen once and only once. Could never figure out how to reproduce it - but I don't know what it is :( While mrakomo is right that the fleet now only waits for 90% of its ships to be jump-aligned, they still should not be taking different routes - so it's some bug, but I have no idea what causes it. As the above, if you have a save or replay, send it in :)

Yes actually i do have a saved game and screesshots of it! I will reload the game and try to duplicate the effect as well as watch the replay to make sure its ok before I send it in.

To answer the above question - yes, I am using 1.04!

Thanks for the ideas and input :-)

it happened to me a lot, but hasn't recently in 1.03 or 1.04. but it did in 1.02 and before. got annoying seeing 1 lv. 7 kol out of my large fleet going through the phase lane without phasing, and constantly having to tell it to stay with the rest of the formation, this was with move as a group turned on.
