Sins updating process is garbage

Sins updating process is garbage

In this day and age, there is no excuse whatsoever for allowing this pig of an updating process to continue. The fans of this game did not need to purchase this game, but we did, and for that we expect a little ease of use to go along with it. How difficult is it to implement an in-game updating system similar to Starcraft that updates seamlessly and then just logs you into Battlenet, or in this case, Ironclad online.

What really grinds my hump is that I have to sign in to the website to get the update. Fine. Fine. But when I try, it says my account information is wrong. Odd...well, it's the same login as the forum, or so it says, so I try to login to the forum. Success! Well...I try the patch again, and it doesn't work. So I request the information be sent to my email address, and what a surprise, ERROR, cannot send to this email address.

Fix this nonsense. Your fans will not support this extremely poor level of service forever.

It's not a non-issue, it's just an annoyance. Just like having to refresh the 'join games' screen manually, just like not having a ladder system for auto-matching games online and having to find them manually, just like not having a proper win/loss reporting system online,

Sorry that not every game out there has its own bnet.
Also the only issues about win/losses is that people just drop instead of surrendering. which has at least been partially fixed.

just like having the occasional minidump, just like having a system that requires everyone to manually open their ports without any guidance

Every game has its crashes and you will aways need to open ports on your own to host multiplayer games.

If you are looking for the perfect game, go back dreaming.

With no plot or storyline to follow, there is only one reason to play single player: you just bought the game and have no idea yet how anything works.

Because playing with whining, socially retarded ADHD competitive whiners like you is clearly a superior experience.

Last time I checked, the AIs weren't as annoying as you.

Is this really worth this many tears?

Omg I had to click update, then save as, then I had to run the executable.

What a tragic and horrible ordeal!! I'm actually shocked I had to use a DVD or download anything to install this game? Can't it just appear on my computer and then start itself when I look at it?

For shame Stardock, for SHAME.

Hopefully in patch 1.1 they will be able to address some of these grievous and pressing issues. I am now starting a hunger strike until my demands are met.

Also in patch 1.2 please implement the ability to move my units around with my mind. I mean, mouse and keyboard? What year are you guys developing in 1842?

Really couldn't have said it any better than you.

The only pain I could see with this updating process would be for those who do not have a legitimate copy of the game. It took me 4 minutes today to register, confirm the email, login, and download the latest update. No problems here.

Are you seriously proposing a WoW solution of a 125 MB patch every week or two?

As far as I can tell the game is solid. I'm on board with Ironclad and Stardock.

Well, the website was acting up on the weekend. When I tried to update, it kept telling me that I hadn't registered the game (which I had, since I used the website to get 1.0.3). Trying to register it told me my serial was invalid.

Somebody came in on Monday and fixed it, but the process certainly isn't perfect.

The only hitch in the process is the ID-10-T error between the computer screen and the keyboard.

I had the same problem you did. You need to go to Stardock Central, which should have installed with the game. From there, you need to register your copy of Sins, using the key that came with the disc. In the case, it should be right above the CD itself.
You will then be able to download updates.

Wow, how hard is it to launch Stardock Central, click the Update button next to Sins and let it do it's thing. Couple minutes later you're done, launch the game all patched up. You can even let SDC archive your game *before* it patches so you can go back to the old version should you choose.

Can't be any simpler then that.

This is such a non-issue it's hard for me to believe it's hit two pages.

First, updating via SDC (and now Impulse, since they have a fixed file up) works pretty well.

Second, for those who don't like auto-update, you can easily download it as a standalone exe from this website. If for whatever reason you're having an account problem, email support and they'll straighten you out.

Third, the current standalone patch has made its way (like the last one) to places like Fileshack and Filefront within 24 hours of release. No Stardock.net account needed.

There's nothing about updating this game that's more difficult than any other game. Case closed. Put a lock on this thread; it's done!
