How do I use the z-axis?

Well, I have been playing the game for a while, but I have yet to learn to control my ships on the Z-Axis. I bound that function to Z, and i have tried every possible click and press key combo, but I still can't control my ships Z-position. Can anybody help?

try pressing ctrl and z. or if not, go to options where there are keyboard hot key change options. It will tell you. If i am wrong, can someone please correct me.
