In Game Ship Designer and Race creator

maybe for the expansion?

Hope I'm not repeating something already said...
Is it possible for sins to have a built in ship designing tool and  race creation in game? I know this is all possible with modding, but that is a bit too complex for me to get into in an afternoon. It seems logical for a game of this type to have some building block style race creation with traits or spend points or some such thing,  to create a race that suits your gameplay, without the "anything goes" mentality of out and out modding.
Ship building would also be an excellent addition to an already awsome game, and would allow the players to create their dream ships without tens of hours on 3ds max or some other 3d editor I am futiley trying to find time to learn to use.
These additions would basically make sins perfect in my eyes. I could basically do anything I could think of doing, create any scenario I can imagine. That sounds like fun!

I would love to see this. I won't hold my breath waiting for it, though.

The Ship Creator was my all-time favourite part from GalCiv II, and considering all of the fantastic features that are in that game, that's saying a lot. In fact, I would suggest that the Ship Creator is one of the best features ever included in any video game ever made, right up there with mouse movement in shooter games, the alarm clock in Civ 4, and the invention of the internet-based game server. And to think that the Gal Civ Ship Creator was added onto the game as an afterthought...

you are absolutely right:
this would be awesome!

but looking at how the game is build up, i doubt it...
i guess we have to rely on the modding community for different races and ship models...

Basically, not going to happen. Too hard to fit it into a real time game.

Obviously, it would have to be a stand-alone editor that runs outside of the game. Like the Create-A-Sim thing for the Sims. Sims runs real-time, and you can use their editor to create finely-tuned characters outside of the game, them import them in as you see fit. It's not so hard from that point of view.

Or, if you don't like Sims, then the character editor for Oblivion, or the one for (ugh) the Godfather game, or a host of other titles.

Did anyone play a game called "Impossible Creatures"? Look it up. They had this feature. You could create your own impossible creatures ahead of time (but i don't think you could switch it up in-game). That made the strategy weird. You would counter someone before you even started the game, or you would gimp yourself. Basically, you could take light frigate guns and put them on a heavy cruiser, or you could put heavy cruiser guns on a light frigate. The result would be reflected in the price of the creature. It was sorta cool and sorta weird.

Off topic. Does this game remind anyone of Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain? The race features and ship design from that would be awesome on here.

Glad to see so that people understand what I'm talking about. A stand alone editor would be perfect, and the impossible creatures' pricing mechanic would fit well into my idea, allowing play balancing. It would really slow down gameplay to have to build the units on the fly in game, but building and experimenting with them before hand would leave time to enjoy the game, while providing the opportunity to create a fleet that fits your personality and preferences.
I imagine it would be really difficult to balance, but that is not really my area of expertise, so who knows.

Funny for you to say Pax Imperia2 as that game is one of my best games to date. I have also used maya and created a Pax fleet that works in Sins to a degree. I would love to make a mod of Pax2 ships but time is not on my side as a game designer i spend too much time already infront of the pc doing my job.

If anyone likes Pax and has the ability to maybe develop a mod for Sins throw me a message and we could possibly make something like "Sins of a Pax Imperium".

But the thing is that what ship parts are you going to put in there? will it all be from the original game or be frm parts from somewhere else? what about buildings too?

I understand that Sim city has that sorta a thing too but that is just to design buildings but since sins is just more than buildings, that is probably not a good idea.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the idea, but it is just the logistic of it...
