What do YOU name your Capital ships?

What do YOU name your Capital ships?

Just please don't say fluffy.

I'm just interested in what you guys name your capital ships. I figured it would be a fun thread!

I usually play TEC and name my first few ships very methodically.

1st cap: Kol Battleship
Name: TDN Bahamut
Why?: Because Bahamut is a friggin' mythological serpent-dragon in all of the Final Fantasy games and plus, it sounds like an awesome name. I just got in the habit. Plus he was a beast mid-game (lvl 7-8).

2nd cap: Kol Battleship
Name: TDN Tiamat
Why?: Well, Tiamat was never as strong as Bahamut and usually isn't by the time he rolls out.

3rd cap: Marza Dreadnought
Name: TDN Yiazmat
Why?: Well, I gotta keep with the final-fantasy dragon-related names! Yiazmat was the insanely high HP boss from FFXII for any of you who don't know. And he took way too long to kill. 1.2 million health, methinks? Plus he sounds like he likes to raze planets.

I really run out of names at this point but usually like to keep it mythology related (ie Cerberus, Diablos, Titan, etc). And I don't have a system for the other two races.

Please, someone else tell me names to help me assure myself that I'm not the only dork out there.

Anyone guess which game the names I use came from came from?

Reliant
Endeavor
Intrepid

Washington
Bremen
Victorious
Mitchell

and my personal favourite:
Prowler

Compss, a few of those are named after ships from WWII like yamato and endeavor. There was an Admiral named Mitchell in WWII in the Pacific I think. I don't notice some of them like Bremen, Reliant, and Washington.

command of destroyers Blakeley and Butler. Blakeley was torpedoed in the Caribbean in 1942, and Butler took part in trans-Atlantic convoy operations and the invasions of Sicily and France. Later in the war, Matthews commanded Destroyer Division 34 and Mine Division 60, the latter of which operated in the Okinawa campaign. A group of photographs from this collection was transferred to the Curator Branch in 1978.

Shadow

Other people have already posted this, but I usually name mine after starships from Star Trek. My name is United Federation (couldn't fit "of Planets") so it works out well. If there's room I'll put USS in front:

Enterprise (usually the flagship of a fleet or the first cap I build. Actually I'm surprised no one else has posted that they use it)
Defiant
Reliant
Intrepid
Excelsior
etc.

Sometimes I name them after X-302s and X-303s from Stargate SG-1/Stargate Atlantis:
Prometheus
Odyssey
Apollo
Daedalus

The only time I name my planets is when I've expanded my empire enough to need a frigate or cap factory on a planet other than my capital, and I add Frigate or Capship to the end of the name to help me quickly find it.

My cap ships have names like: Asia Carrera, Jenna Jameson and Mika Tan. If you don't know who they are googling those names will be not safe for work.

I name all my ships, planets, stars, etc, in the "String" file, and only have to do it once (and yes, the stargate designations make it concise but hard to find specific planets) :)

Well I have gotten a fairly solid lineup of names, and I still find it fun to name, even if it is a tactically futile gesture.

I like to name some of them after German words revolving around spirit/mind/soul etc etc.

My designator is a play on my typical callsign, Altered Soul, IAS (In Altered Service, which is quite fitting for TEC)

Gehirn
Seele
Animus
Kampfgeist
Moderne
Primasprit
Wandertrieb
Seelenpein
Ansicht
Gewaltsam
Armatur

And so on. Also, how to you get to the string to change them?

I name my ships after Earth Alliance ships from Babylon 5 and/or US Navy ships
EAS Agrippa
EAS Agamemnon
EAS Churchill
EAS Lexington
EAS Enterprise

ect....

If you do this do you have any problems connecting to other players?

I like to name only my capitol ships and some of my cruisers. I like to use names from Greek and Roman mythology. For my TEC Kol class battleship, always the first in my fleet I call the Aeneid, the story written by Virgil which tells of one of the survivors of Troy, Aeneas who leads other survivors to Italy and their descendants founded Rome. The other names I use are the Odyssey, the Iliad, Achilles, Hector. I also like to use names and words from the ancient Latin language.

I usually start with the same first letter of the original name, but not always.  I am a TEC player so I have separate ones for each Cap.

Kol:

     Valiant
     Dauntless
     Fearless
     Valor
     O'neill (Two Ls!)

Akkan:

     Invincible
     Inspiration
     Desistance

Sova: I don't really use it, so I just go with Enterprise if I do.

Dunov:

     Aegis(Egis)
     Protector
     Persister

Marza:

     Fury
     Vengence
     Malice
     Malevolent
     Omega

Usually I name my ships after USN warships,

battleships:

Iowa, Missouri, Mississippi, Arizona, New Jersey, ect...

carriers:

Midway, Hornet, Enterprise, Essex, Yorktown, Lexington, Saratoga.

The other capital ships, I name whatever I feel like, could be after more USN ships, fictional ships, (Star Wars, Star Trek, BSG). And usually, I try to fit in SSV at the beginning, after Systems Alliance (I really liked Mass Effect)

I name mine

Highguard(always flagship)

Isengard

Midgard

Usually I name only my first ship if I remember too, but it's usually "Enterprise."

I usually name my homeworld Alhura, which means "The Free One" after the U.S sponsored TV station in Iraq. So i name my first cap "Son of Alhura" Because that's what fits in the box. After that i almost never name anything again.

Take it you like Freespace2 then.

My cap ship names tend to be anything from any of the various mythologies, BSG names, Freespace, Wing Commander, Babylon5, Andromoda.  Whatever takes my fancy
