It is a serious attempt at a rock solid Roman era title. Think of it as the strategic version of the Rome Total War but with lots more depth and serious attention to historic elements.

For the record Paradox is very similar to StarDock in its development & support paradigms and should be supported as such.

I have this dream that one day both companies will merge and then gamers will see what it is like to have a "big boy" developer producing titles that are squarely focused on game play and gamers.

The thing about the Europa Universalis titles is that I could never bring myself to recommend them to other people, even though they are Good games, very good games in fact but few people have the time, patience and effort it requires to truly play them.

I purchased the ROME game yesterday, on Paradox's Gamer's Gate website : US$ 49.95.

The site also offers the 1.1 patch and the manual (.pdf).

The Rome Paradox forum posts a big strategy guide for download (.pdf).

I picked up the game for $39.99 at BestBuy yesterday.

I'm now trying to form a small circle of friends to play online. Apparently, these types of games take a very long time to complete so I'm looking to play a couple of hours each night, save it, and then continue it the following night.

Sadly enough being a very long time member of the PD (almost as long as SD) and doing the preorder thing I have not received my product (as expected and not that I really care to be honest) but I also have not received my download code. It has been near a week now since I have sent several emails and made a couple forum posts. I'm very frustrated to say the least. It appears they all took a week off after the release. I said it before and I'll say it again "if it was not for bad luck I would have no luck".

Well, at least I tried the demo first, and good thing I did. When I click "Single Player" in the demo, my PC hangs and I have to push the magic button. Happens without fail!

I finally got the code today from them. I hope to be able to try it out tomorrow.

Im a regular player of the EU series, and sadly this game is merely yet another hybrid of the now tired EU engine. Yes it has new features, yes it has new gfx but it still imports all the old issues and even worst, has the worst UI seen to date.

My advice with all Paradox games is wait till its patched to buggery and in the bargain bin, otherwise you'll be buying yet another 'nearly there' game!

They came, They churned out another EU genre, They failed!

Just 298 to go, then you'll be in trouble!!!! ;)

I dunno, I think even one Centurion model would've been enough back in that day.

I bought the game. It is fun, but definitely requires a love for history.

If you're oblivious to history then you would probably not enjoy this game.

Sadly SD & IC changed my user name from Spartan to 1Spartan when then merged the forums systems. I felt cheated - a little...

I'll have to pick this game up after I get done with my country in EU3. The whole series is great.

Yes, it is a Real-Time Grand Strategy Game. I actually consider Sins as a Real-Time Grand Strategy Game too.

Big boy developers can't focus on gamers you know, they focus on money

I'd strongly dispute this statement; sins has little in common with a game like Rome, far less than even the Total War series. I like Sins a lot, and far more than I like most RTS games, but it is in no way a "grand strategy" game. Although somewhat deeper and less frantically paced than the typical RTS, it is still an RTS and its most prominent feature is tactical combat. Non-combat aspects of Sins (such as colony development, economy, diplomacy) is far, far too simple to be termed grand strategy. While Paradox games are often called real time games (there are technically no turns and you have to let time advance for your orders to play out) they are much closer in gameplay to TBS gmes and there is no tactical combat (combat is automatically resolved based on various stats and die rolls). Rome is a decent game, though it needs more work (it's been patched twice since release), and is probably the easiest and most accessible of the Paradox games to get into.
