Diplomacy Matrix?

Is there one?

So as I'm playing through, I note that my friend (human) is in a 4-faction fight over his home planet...I unfortunately started in the next system, so the AI's ganging up on him, and I can't get to him.  He has made an AI friend though, and that's the 3rd AI fleet in the system.

But since to me, all 3 AI's are hostile, I get the impression that he is under simulataneous attack from 3 factions.

Therefore, is there a diplomacy matrix that allows me to see who's allied with whom?  Or do I just have to observe their fleets when they run into each other?

No, there's nothing that lets you see alliances that are not yours.. that's intentional design ;)

Er, yes really :P Every time it was brought up in beta the devs have always said why should you see all alliances? If you're playing an MP FFA game, are you going to want all your alliances known to everyone? Same with the AI :P

I wanted to add that seeing all alliances at the glance of a screen would be like trying to play poker with all your cards laid out :P

i like the idea of keeping things secret (it's fun being allied people and getting them to fight =P) but i also like the idea of seeing my allies allies, so i know i'm fighting for a good cause.

so i propose a diplomatic option (like show ships) be added that shows an ally who i'm allied with. this way by sharing we can trust each other more, which is what diplomacy is about.

thoughts?

Well, my #1 wishlist item for future additions to the game is an espionage system, in which it'd be possible to learn of the alliances ;)

All sorts of sabotage :P I wrote up an idea for the devs to consider way back in beta :P

Really?

Ok, that's just...

Never saw that in the beta. Would have strongly protested then, since it's quite annoying in SP to have to watch for a small skirmish of the AI every time I want to know their diplomacy status.
