Age of Conan PVP Weekend

Age of Conan PVP Weekend

So Gamespot was running a promo for the Age of Conan PVP beta weekend, April 18-21 - did anyone else here sign up and lucked out on one of the keys? :)

I actually laughed when I saw it needed 32.9gb of free space for the install process :P

I've got 3 trials available when the game comes out as well(2 are already taken), hit me up if you want one.

I'll be in the PvP weekend.

Also, I wouldn't mind a trial invite at release to see what the whole game's actually like.

Well there are a few of that will be getting invites so anyone that wants one and would be interested in joining a guild or starting a sister one for that matter is welcome to join up. If we get enough active people then I'll expand my Ventrilo server to 100 people.

So I played the pvp beta for an hour, and I preordered the CE.

:SURPRISED: I think what sold me most is actually the character animations, the combos, and the nice artwork on armor/gear.

So Spartan, about that guild of yours..

@Annatar11 - Hop in brother the more the merrier. I would love to have a couple dozen sinners involved.

BTW: Caduceus is going to be the official leader since I dont have the time to focus on the day to day stuff. He is a real good guy. You should like him.

You guys got a forum set up on the modcraft boards I guess? :P

Meh.

Shadowbane: Unstable with Forceware 169.x drivers
Age of Conan: Unstable with Forceware 163.x drivers

So, yeah. Anyone have suggestions for maybe third-party drivers for which both will work? Given that I play Shadowbane as my MMO at the moment, and I'd rather not have to bork it for the weekend. :P

Dunno, I'm using 174.xx beta and have no issues at all with it. Did you try those? You can always revert if it borks it :)

Turns out there's a compatibility fix for Shadowbane.

Guess I'm back to using the new drivers.

Anyone else notice the overpoweringness of rangers at the moment?

Hey Annatar I noticed you stole my char name :P. Anyway, my friend, my uncle, and I are going to be playing age of conan as well. I am getting a CE so I can have some trials to give to some friends. We could make an even larger guild of sins players! I'm up for joining a guild as well btw.

Pfft! I've been using this one for years, but someone beat both of us to it on these forums it seems :P

There are a few Sins players it looks like already in Spartan's, I'm planning on joining that one. Hopefully it'll get started on a PvP or a PvP-RP server, for added funness ;)

Yeah, we have some cross pollination going on with different titles as it should be since that is the point of the community. Any Sinners are welcome to join the community.

I recently upgraded the vent server to a commercial package to support the new AoC community and to accommodate the ever growing GE clan.

Play a game that takes 1/5th of my hard drive space. Im sorry but even EVE took less and I would seriously like people to find a more massive environment.

If I had an extra one, I would mail it to you, just so you could install and play AoC. It will be worth it.
I played the PvP weekend beta, and loved what I saw. I think it will be a huge success.

I think it certainly has the potential to be a very fun game. I doubt it will displace WoW, but I definitely think it has the biggest chance to be a success where recent MMO launches have been quite underwhelming (LoTRO, Vanguard, Tabula Rasa).

In any case, I too liked what I saw in the PVP weekend, and I'm now looking forward to Fileplanet's open beta starting May 1, even though I already pre-ordered the thing :)

@Annatar - When you going to start coming on Ventrilo? We do a lot of planning on there.
Would've earlier if you'd mentioned that :P I generally don't idle on voice chats like IRC chatrooms :P
Reply #44 Top
Well Vent uses little memory and we do a lot of talking about the clan and guild system as well as the game. Moreover The GE Clan most often has over 20 people on doing games so idling is an option if you want but by far not the mainstay.
Nah it's not the memory usage or anything, I just tend to listen to a bit of loud music, and when people are talking or popping into the chat and being clowns (I'm looking at you, eetsy) when the volume is really loud.. no good ;)

I'm eager to try this game out from a PvE view, since I really don't like PvP. Anybody tried it and know how it compares to WoW?

Well, I don't know about actual PvE gameplay, though the various FAQs promise it will have more storytelling than traditional MMOs, with interactive dialogue common in RPGs in general and such.

But since it relates to PvE, the combat system in AoC is very unique. There's no autoattacks or anything of the sort. For melee/ranged classes, there are "combo" moves that need a combination of directional attacks (You start being able to attack from left/right/over the top, don't know if additional ones open up later) and at the end of the chain you not only do the damage from those attacks, you execute the finisher. With spells, there's a similar system called Spellweaving (though it's been deliberately excluded from beta) that will allow a caster to mix together different spells in a combo and observe the flashy effects. They've also tried to do away with shunting classes into very narrow roles (like WoW priests only being able to do any decent damage as Shadow, but nobody wanted a healing Shadow priest). So all classes promise to have a good mix of offense and support. There are a few class intervews and such out there for you to read.

Guilds will also be able to build their own cities (which will be instanced to prevent overcrowding and such) with various buildings that help crafters, town halls, etc.

There will of course be instancing and raiding, I believe I saw a post on the main forums say there will be 16 end-game instances on launch, but I'm not in the beta so I can't comment.

If you've got a FP subscription, they're giving out keys for the open beta starting on May 1, so you can try it out a bit yourself. Personally, though, I played WoW for 2.5 years and was the MT of a raiding guild for about 1.5 years of that (and OT for the same guild the other part). Playing the PvP weekend for not even an hour got me to preorder because the game felt so much more interactive than WoW :P
Reply #48 Top
Yeah. I'm interested because of the interactivity and the player city stuff. I got into a technical test, but didn't really get to play much due to the nature of that kind of test (goal is to stress stuff until it breaks, which it did).

That being said, I don't really blindly buy games anymore without trying them, I've been burned too many times on stuff that just didn't work as advertised.

Here's hoping. :)

Well, we'll see how trial keys hold up :P I might have one for ya!

Again anyone interested in joining a clan for this franchise that is RP oriented with older gamers they are more then welcome to make themselves known and get involved us. We are still in the planning stages and have lots of ideas about how to organize the community.
