How to use Strikecraft well?

HI Guys,

I feel like I'm struggling to use strikecraft well.  Carriers feel very very expensive to me, I can never get them out in critical mass to do anything useful (like counter LRMs).  And that to the fact that once the carriers are built, it still takes FOREVER before my strike craft force reaches full capacity, and add that to the fact that the strikecraft tend to choose strange autotargets (like colony ships, flak frigates and other strikecraft rather than, idunno, LRMs).  Add to that the fact that flak frigates just TEAR them apart, and I'm really struggling.

I thought It would be useful to open a discussion on how to use carriers effectively.  REPEAT: I'm interested in how to use carriers effectively in this build.  I'm not interested in whether or not they are balanced, how they are imbalanced, or how thy should be changed to become more balanced.  I just want to see if there's anything that can be done with them as they are right now.

There is no way to use them well except the micro them.

Their ai/how they fly/etc is so terrible, it makes them completely ineffective.

to select your carriers.. hold down alt, then click one of them, either on the board or in the fleet display(it selects them all). Then rightclick the edge of the gravity well , next, while holding the shift key, click a circle around the gravity well about 5 times and about 5 or 6 points on the edge for each circle.. that'll get your carriers flying in a circle around the edge, and make them a little less of a sitting duck for everyone to pop, after all, no carriers, no strikecraft :P
next, click your fleet dots a couple of times, or alt-click a fighter, it'll select all of them. hit control and an unused number, and you've assigned them all to a hotkey. then whenever you want to have them do something, hit the hotkey, and right click whatever you want them to attack.. voila, you can't call their choices dumb after you've made them for them ;)

The strikecraft problem has been around for some time, and I hope it is fixed be patch 1.1.
