Space Stations?

I was wondering if anyone has made a mod that adds space stations as something that can be built around planets.  And if so were i might be able to find it... and... if the mod (assuming it exists) will work with the battlewagons mod?

you do realize that every building you build around a planet is a space station right?

Yeah, all the things built around the planets are space stations. So, what exactly do you mean by space stations? What would they be able to do etc?

I am planning on making large defense stations that have powerful long range guns, capital ship killer guns. I don't really have all the details figured out, but thats the general idea. They may have some anti-fighter weapons too.

well, what i think he means is somthing like in eaw. these space stations have emergency defense ships, powerful weapons, and strikecraft.

The mod your planning is almost exactly the sorta thing im talking about. Something much larger and better for defending key planets. If i had any modding skills id offer them up, but as i dont... ya... Honestly i think it should be something patched into the game rather then a mod, since i havent had much luck with multiple mods in a single game to get quite what i am looking for as far as game play.

it would not be that hard to make if you have a modeler/skinner, the coding part is rather straight forward for the most part. it would be interesting to see but hard to find a decent modeler/skinner for the small mod. you might be able to convince someone to do it for you tho. i personally wouldn't mind seeing a beefed up space defense platform, sorta like an epic space platform which needs research. if i could get my hands on a decent model which would combine frig, capital, defense platforms, repair platforms id try doing it myself. but meh, chances are it would not happen.

sorry for the double post but forgot to mention this in the other one, they would have to have their own model, like a super space station with original (not currently used in the game) concept, not just the actual buildings added together. but still have the same look/feel of each of the races it is built for. Also it would need to be really expensive, slow building, tier 8 tec, and need allot of logic slots (ie, 20-30 logic slots, that or if its possible to have it take up something like 20 logic and 20 defense (its been a week or 2 since i played sins so i forget the exact word for the other slots) anyhow, its an idea at any rate.

I like the idea, I need some giant defense thing that I can then spam to my pleasure. :D I would think it would take tactical slots (defense slots) not logistic, unless it would offer trade and refinery operation. I say only tactical, and have lots of fighters, maybe a few basic frigates, and lots of guns. Emphasis on lots of guns. Did I say lots of guns?

ya but keep in mind its a hub for just about every building. unless you could make "modules" on it, im thinking like a huge very expensive structure that can make ships, launch strike craft, has self defenses, can repair, and requires pretty much most of the military and civilian tec tree to be researched, it would be more for a single player game or a very drawn out multilayer game.

Hmm, I feel like having it do all that stuff (build ships, launch fighters, repair, in addition to having large guns) is a bit excessive. For now, I was actually thinking of taking the repair platforms and changing them so they have a bunch of big guns, they repair like normal, and have some anti-fighter guns. I just think having it do everything kind of defeats the purpose of having all the various structures. I want it to add more options to the defenses, instead of replacing any of them. Also, I think it would just use a bunch of tactical slots, not sure how many yet.

It wouldn't be hard to integrate the mod into the game, but I don't know if it would work correctly with other mods. Chances are, it wouldn't, but it depends on what the mod changes in the game.

lol if it actually gets anywhere. its still just concept unless he gets a team together. As for Beejmin's statement, it really depends on what you do with it, there could also be several different combinations than that with different stats, and be balanced out. what i hate is when people say it would be too overpowered without even putting any thought into how it would be balanced.

Edit: By the way, sorry for sort of taking over this thread, after all, it was the guy in the OP who started it, and it is his idea.

For the record, as it stands what you want to do is impossible, you cant have strikecraft and weapons on the same planetmodule, not done properly atleast (you would have to make one or the other an ability). That said feel free to theorise all you want as hopefully we will be able to bypass that limitation at a later date.

The mod I made basically uses the pirate asteroid as a station for the free worlds. I basically gave the model weapon hardpoints so it dosent shoot from center and hangers so it dosent spawn strikecraft in the middle of the map. If you want just this modified model and station I can make a make small mod for ya for beefed up stations.

Well, only having either weapons or squadrons doesn't affect my idea, so I'll still try it. Yeah, hopefully we will be able to change more in the future, that would be really nice. I think its way too limited right now. But, we can just work with what we have for now.

What no orbital Bed and Breakfasts....that's it I'm uninstalling it. Kidding. I'd like to see some planetary slots. Why should civic research be in orbit? Granted that might open the flood gates....farms, industry, etc. That may bog the play down.

ive been toying around with the idea of this too....but i wouldnt mod it, what i would have done however is make the stars colonizable ( apon colonization you get 5 orbital habitats and you can build ONE 'main station' which is a repair yard, a trade post x3 and a shipyard in one)

i think you should put space stations around plasma storms, astroid fields, dead astroids etc

I've thought of some interesting ideas I would like to do... with collaboration:

Primarily a construction ship capable of navigating through the star system (for TEC it could be like, Construction Contractor Ship or plain Contrator Ship, and it could be like a Capital Ship, in size and stats) and it should be capable of the following:

- Contructing Space Stations (wich could be leveled, and this would determine it's size) this could have different modalities, like working like a huge port (with population taxes too) but within this, it would allow us to have both tactical and civilian slots, but these wouldn't work on the usual way, because they would be like improvements or upgrades. (both visiual and in status)

- Contructing Refinery/Trade Stations (smaller, and with a more practical and concise objective... pretty obvious too). This would give a larger amount of Refinery/Trade ships, therefore points.

- Military Space Station (or Military Post), some kind of fort capable of both defense (hangars and turrets) and constructing ships... could be big too.

And I had another idea also, wich wouldn't be a part of this ship's abilities... it's to make some kind of fort (wich could be added as a Tactical Structure) and it's primary function would be strategical defense... with both hangars and turrets.


This would have a pretty awesome desing.

Im glad to see im not the only one who thinks this is a neat idea. Honestly i like the idea of being able to make stations specific to different tasks, Civil, Millitary ext. Id Love to set up a team to do this, but i honestly dont know how to do any modding, and am honestly not that good with things similar. Anywho, thanks for the responces, hopefully getting the idea out there will spur those with the skillz into making it :P

(Also, possible using some of the Moon mod ideas and being able to build space stations on them?)
